Kia played well when she was in the game. IMHO that's when Canada played their best ball.

Compared to most freshmen, Kia won't have to hit the weights to get ready for College Ball. She's got plenty of muscle definition

Prefer Mozambique's coaches clipboard over Canada's. :)

Camera Operator sure like Kia when she's in the game. She gets plenty of air time.

Smooth and never looks rattled. Has a very good sense of game flow. She also talks to her teammates a lot and directs traffic. Very impressive for such a young player.
no idea how good she'd be on any other team but UCONN will make her look fantastic

Geno is going to love her. I know he doesn't like to start freshmen but it will be hard to keep her off the court.

Canada's coach look like Ann Donavan... minus the glasses

Canada wins 69-54 Canada kept it reasonably close because of their missed layups.

Kia played well. Constant motion and moves well without the ball. Knows how to play. IMHO her best position is PG. However, she has enough skill that Geno just might start her at SG. She'll be competition for Saniya

Next up is Spain vs Japan or Korea vs Belarus. Will watch Spain play as they're talented and Medal contenders.

Canada has to compete against France and host nation Turkey to get to the medal round. That will be tough.

Nice line for her first World Championship game.

#UConn's Kia Nurse had 9 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal as Canada opens FIBA Worlds with victory http://elmcitytoeaglevillenhr.blogspot.com/2014/09/solid-start-at-fiba-worlds-for-uconns.html…

I agree that, with her build and hair bun, Kia resembles Nicole Powell.

Even her movement reminds me of Powell, as well as the erectness with which she carries her body. Many similarities.

Noticed on replay -- when Mozambique hit a few shots late in the game, after Kia had gone to the bench (probably thinking she was done for the day), the Canadian coach put her back in for perimeter defense and ball control -- at least I assume those were the reasons. She is clearly one of Canada's core players.

Having said that, I don't think she will be in UConn's starting lineup, but it's possible. There is an open position at the 2 for which she could possibly beat out Saniya and the other freshmen.

Interesting that Kia got more minutes than Nirra Fields, a sophomore at UCLA.

Courtney Pilypaitis looks very different (and in my opinion better) than she looked when she played for Vermont. Also smiles more.

IMO, Nurse is light years ahead of Chong. I don't anticipate Chong ever starting for UCONN, but I can envision Nurse starting from day 1.
