These 2 Washington/Arizona game threads are messing w/ me, I keep posting in the wrong one. UW got off to a good start and had a lead early, but then went ice cold. Went nearly 8 minutes w/out a FG. I'll give ASU's defense some credit, but just terrible shooting by the Huskies, which is nothing new for them. 23-14 ASU about 4 minutes into Q2.

Washington back within 4. They have at least 3 shot clock violations already. Get a freaking shot off, please!

Teams taking turns turning it over. Getting sloppy. 26-21 ASU.

Teams trade 3s at the end of the half. 34-26 ASU. That last one was a killer, UW had to be feeling pretty good being within 5 after playing some pretty bad ball for about 10 minutes of game clock.

ASU defense will do that.

Offensively Kiki Russell who hit the three at the end of the half is leading the Devils with seven points. I thought we had some of the best energy in two weeks with the unit that came on the floor with Eboni Walker, Taya Hanson, Iris Mbulito, little used Bre Sanders and Jamie Ruden. After scoring nine points and pulling down five boards Friday night Walker has had another outstanding game with 5 points and 4 boards.

Much better energy of the Devils part than Friday.

Just announced that Reili Richardson is five assists away from becoming the all-time leader in ASU history. Reili is the daughter of former Sun Devil and Chicago Bear Mike Richardson.

.-.
13 seconds into the second half and curtain of distraction makes it appearance with Dees at the line. She goes 1 for 2.

Huskies still kinda hanging around 44-36 midway thru Q3. Russell has been playing well for ASU.

Curtain of distraction not really working today. Huskies are five for six from the line in the third quarter.

ASU w/ 2 O boards and eventually gets a 3 from Richardson. That hurt. UW had closed to within 5.

.-.
Moral victory for the Huskies. They are consistently badly outplayed in the third quarter and outscored the Devils by 2 in the third period.

Although the Huskies are even worse in the fourth quarter the Devils will regret allowing Huskies to hang around this long.

Lead was up to 9, just cut to 4. 55-51 w/ 7 minutes left.

Both of the games against the Washington schools have been more interesting than they should have been for ASU.

O boards are killing UW. ASU keeps capitalizing on 2nd or 3rd opportunities. 63-56 w/ 4 1/2 minutes left. Had the margin down to 3 a few moments ago.

Richardson is now tied w/ Briann January for career assists lead at ASU.

.-.
another O board and 2nd chance bucket, and Richardson gets the record

If UW could've grabbed some rebounds they very well could've won this game.

Again. Missed shot by ASU, 3 Devils in the paint and only 1 Husky. 20 second chance points for ASU today. This is friggin' ridiculous.

And again. ASU's best offense today is a missed shot.

Somehow UW closed to 5 again after being down 9 and looking pretty much out of it. 51 seconds left.

ASU keeps splitting their FTS. 69-64 w/ 27.9 left, UW ball.

70-68 13 seconds left, poor FT shooting by ASU. 2 more coming. Melgoza had a quiet game until about the last 2 minutes, now she's going off.

Mbulito finally hits a pair for ASU. 72-68 final.

.-.
Washington continues its streak of losing games down one possession or less in the final minute and by under <5 for the game. I truly think if you took 20 points and redistributed them across Washington's losses this season, they'd be an NCAA tournament team. @nwhoopfan, do you think they get nervous and choke? Or lose energy/focus? I've never seen such a consistent second-half slump.

I'm not sure. Certainly there is something to learning how to win, after losing so many games the previous 2 seasons. They really didn't have a 2nd half slump today, but yeah that has happened so many times this year, it's mystifying. They shot 50% from the floor today, against a very good defensive team. I see them hit shots like this, and I wonder why they can't do it more often. Consistently just a very poor shooting team.

I just think it's lack of confidence, ultimately. That can lead to what looks like choking down the stretch.

Too bad they couldn't bottle whatever it was that took them to that huge upset over OSU in last year's P12 tournament.

ASU, meanwhile, seems almost incapable of winning any game comfortably.

I'm rewatching the early stages of this game, and I saw something pretty rare.

There was a long stretch of continuous play (no whistles) before the 1Q media TO. By about the 7:00 mark there were already 5 ASU players sitting at the scorer's table to check in, and by the 5:30 mark there were also 5 UW at the table -- 10 subs all waiting to check in to the game.

I definitely noticed that. I was really hoping that Wynn wasn't going to try to match CTT on every hockey line change. The 5 that came in for UW didn't produce much during that particular stretch (Peterson got it going later). They've made a couple changes to the starting lineup recently. Watkins has started the last several games and Rooks got the start today too.
