Was Diaco Really a Bad Recruiter?

Diaco actually had a very good recruiting plan. But used car salesma could close, but like used cars passed off as shiny new, he closed on questionable talent passed off as division 1A.

I recall it vividly. He talked about how in the population footprint that UCONN sits in, and the travel hubs via airplane that the current conference provides, there is PLENTY of talent to recruit from.

Pasqualoni recruited (and in hindsight recruited pretty well in 2 seasons) with no pkan whatsoever and relied on personal connections. Edsall 1.0 recruited with the underdog build a winner out of trailers pitch.

You got to set your player criteria though.

Speed is #1, and non-negotiable. That is where Diaco failed. He recruited high quality student athletes, but not the speed required to compete with our scheduled opponents.

Simply because the current coach wants nothing to do with them. It is not about talent, it is about ego. The coach's ego.
Who are you talking about? Edsall's ego would be stroked by winning more than not playing good players.

Look at all the misses in Diaco's first full recruiting class ( 2015 recruiting class ). All of these kids would be in their 4th year this year

Zordan Holman, Dallas Parker, Ben Hartwick, Ian Campbell, Felton Blackwell, William Richardson, John Robinson, Connor Freeborn, Philippe Okounam, Nazir Williams, David Ryslik, Chris Lee, Aaron Garland, Frank Battle.

The hits were Hergy Mayala, Tyraiq Beals, Aaron McLean, Tyler Davis, Kevin Murphy, Brian Cespedes, Marshe Terry, Michael Tarbutt, Matt Peart,

Other than Peart none of the hits were big hits.

Diaco last full class ( 2016) was marginally better but not enough to recover from this class.

When RE left UConn had 24 guys in the NFL. At the beginning of this season there were just 7 and 6 of those were RE recruits!

If accurate, those are great numbers for recruiting.

Wouldn’t really call Terry a hit.
Hit iin my system s someone that can actually get on to the field. There is a a large range in the hits. The misses are the players that are not with the program anymore or can't even get on the field after 4 years. Cespedes is still a backup but we know he was close to being a starter this year. Davis was a miss as a quarterback but at least he contributes as a tight end. Overall we can agree it was a poor recruiting class and most of the what I label as hits are not that great. Peart is a good recruit. Mayala has been productive. It goes down fast after those two.
