Just finished listening to his interview and the only new nugget was that he would look for a head coach that would put the ball all over the field (he said he gets excited and the fans get excited). So, I think he's going to be looking at offensive minded, spread offense type of candidates.

He also made a strong statement that we are a top school with top facilities, that we win championships, we've been successful in football in our short time in D1A and that regardless of conference affiliation he doesn't buy into the notion that we can't be good a football again.

I hope TJ gets hot on recruiting WRs. In order to run that fashionable uptempo offense, you need a ton of those guys to keep fresh legs on the field.

Rich Rod would have been good in this situation - that ship has sailed though.

It sounds like TJ may have a real shot at the permanent role. It makes you wonder if someone like Narduzzi would be considered.

If TJ somehow goes 5-3 or better...he'll get a look. Other than that, he's just building his resume for his next gig in my opinion.

What TJ has going for him is the guys love him. They will go all out for him and if he can show strong glimpses of the type of offense he helped with in Cincy, then he fits Warde's description of the next coach. Unfortunately, like Zoocougar said, we need a deep WR group to make it work.

Phillips should be back by USF, but after Foxx, Phillips and Davis...... I've seen improvement in the TE play so if we can get any semblance of a running game we may get by with 3 WR's, who by the way, all return next year.

I think it's TJ's job to lose though.

I very respectfully, but vehemently disagree. It is that sentiment that got us into this mess in the first place. It is his job to earn. No more hand-me-outs in this program, if he wins he gets a shot at the job, if not...NEXT!

Tomatos, tomahtos

It's the same thing. By saying it's his job to lose I mean he has the chance to prove he can do it. It can't just be a mediocre effort. It has to be "Wow, this guy has a system and the players responded in a big way" Then I think he gets it.

Technically, since he is the interim coach, it is his job to lose. No one else can lose a job they don't have.

Here here!!! Seems to me I've heard two arguments for him getting the permanent gig. 1. He worked at Michigan at the same time Warde did; and 2. he is an upbeat guy. Neither of those are enough in my estimation to give him anything. 7-8 wins, then he gets legit consideration. 4-6 wins he gets a courtesy interview. Anything less and he gets the home version of UConnopoly as a parting gift.

LOL, so 6 wins (and a bowl) just gets him a courtesy interview, we have never had 6 conference wins. You are a jackwagon of epic proportions.

BTW are you still pining for Calipari to get the basketball job? Admit it, you are still hoping Ollie fails just so you can declare some kind of ass-hat victory.

Literally no one has suggested just giving the job to TJW without him proving himself first. Who are you arguing with? Jeez. He has nice qualities. He has potential. But EVERYONE from Warde on down has said he has to WIN if he wants consideration. Why do you invent arguments?!

7-8 wins and I'm building a statue.
Exactly this^^^^^^^^

7-8 wins and we (likely) win the AAC and go to a BCS bowl. Not only will he offered the job at UConn, but he will probably be offered BETTER jobs as well.

I think the (right) six wins and a bowl game gets him the job.

I think you're wrong. Six gets him consideration. Maybe he gets the job depending on who else is out there. This has nothing to do with Ollie by the way. I'm basing my opinion on Warde's performance with the hockey program where the interim coach took a team that was 0-4-1 and won 19 games, went 10-3-2 over the last 15 games with playoff ranking on the table, won more games than any UConn team since 1999-2000, finsihed .500 out of the league for the first itme in forever, took the top ranked team in the country to the limit, found a goaltender who had been languishing on the bench for 4 years and had the stones to replace the face of the program, and all conference player, in the net...basically did everything you could ask of a guy in the interim position, then some. To me that suggests that Warde will have a very high bar for Weist to clear to be the next football coach. And I doubt 5-6 wins gets it done. Less than 6 in fact and he has not a prayer. Even 7-8 he'll get strong consideration but I think Warde will be looking beyond just this season and consider other factors. this isn't UConn basketball that basically recruits itself. And he'll be concerned with Bill Stewart syndrome too.

sportsartsaid:"What TJ has going for him is the guys love him. They will go all out for him and if he can show strong glimpses of the type of offense he helped with in Cincy, then he fits Warde's description of the next coach." "Strong glimpses" is a long long way from 7 wins and a highly functional offense in my interpretation. Remember we're starting at the worst offense in the country. And he's the coordinator.

go back and read some of the other stuff people like ruskin have posted. They are ready to hand him the job tomorrow. Art, I think, clarified his position a little.

Scott Frost(Oregon) fits that description. and he's only 38 too.

I would put the odds of Scott Frost giving 1 second of consideration to the UCONN job at about 0 %. He is going to have his choice of high profile BCS jobs very soon, and I hear he has his eyes set on Nebraska.

It's always "all on Ollie". So going undefeated in the AAC does not get TJW the gig?
Since when does UConn basketball recruit itself? You declared UConn is a midmajor with a "Stewart type pick as coach in Ollie" who will win a few good games in the regular season but flame out in NCAA's , isn't that your stance on basketball? Ollie can't recruit/win at a mid major like UConn. Or has you opinion changed?

The one thing the Warde and the admin. should have learned from the PP mess is to set your sights high.

Even if some as you say won't consider us. It's always worth a phone call.

No question. It is just going to be impossible to get a guy like Frost who will have his choice of jobs.
