The game started out so promising with some of the best half-court flow we've seen in a while and then with 16 minutes to go in the first half they hit the proverbial wall and that was it.
We have to keep things in perspective in that this team is not as bad as they looked tonight. As poorly as they've played lately, they've generally been a play or two from winning many of the games they've lost. Not tonight!
If they were able to hit many of those open looks they were getting early in the game, it might have turned out differently. Instead they missed early and then kept on missing. They continued to play very good D during much of the game, but as their offense continued to sputter, they began to lose focus and will on defense.
Although there continues to be some alarming signs such as Napier's poor play, this is pretty much a throw the tape away game. I decided to watch the beginning of this game to get the bad taste of horrible hoops out of my system and they looked really good for the first 4 minutes of the game up 9-3 two-and-half minutes in adn 13-7 at the 4 minute mark. Lamb hit a real deep transition 3. RB threw a beautiful pass off penetration to AD for a dunk. Roscoe hit the first shot of the game nailing a sweat 10 footer. RB set AD up with two really nice interior passes for dunks. It was all clicking through the first 4 minutes of the game. JC took AD out for Alex and not due to anything he did, but the offense completely disappeared from that point on. RB missed badly on a J just inside the key, then Lamb missed a wild 3 followed by a runner that was way off and the train quickly ran completely off the tracks. After a TV timeout, Bazz came in and he immediately got his shot blocked.
Maybe JC shouldn't toss the entire tape, but show them these first 4 minutes and then tell them to hit the floor and build on what they did during that first 4 minutes. Funny how we often hear the saying, play a 40 minute game. Well they played a 4 minute one. Ugh!
The results lately are alarming, but please step away from the ledge and lets see what they can do over the next few games before you declare the season's over!
