As a former mid major player he comes on promoting wichita st, and Francesca says how the tourney is all about the mid major, then Wally gets adamant about how UCONN better net got in over a mid major. Goes on and on about how we are 3 and 9 in our last twelve, chemistry problems, coaching problems, and it doesn't matter our RPI and SOS because mid majors can't get those good numbers because they can't schedule tough teams, etc.

Francesca agreed. Then they go on and say when the mid majors lose close games on the road against good teams, that that should count for something on their resumes, because those teams won't play them at home.

Uh, since win do close losses count for anything?

Expect a lot of this. There are two sides to this one - the very passionate group that feels the giant should not get in just because of brand and the computers suggesting they're still calculated ahead many of the teams on the bubble. And then the pragmatic bunch that strip down the emotions and suggest the bubble sucks.

He's still upset that his sweet sixteen run in 1999 was trumped by this!

At this point do we really deserve to be in the tournament? I say no we dont. if we get in id be thrilled but if we didnt get in im fine with it as i dont see it as the tourney commitee is out to get us. i will say this, if we beat pitt and win two games in the BE tourney we definitely in.

Yeah, Szerbiak was one of those talking heads that talked it up against UConn and the BE, last year. I hope we get in just to spite him.

If you have played the #1 toughest schedule in the country, and you have beaten 2 out of every 3 teams, then I would say that you should still be in the discussion for the tournament. I am a fan of the mid-major getting their chance at the Big Dance too, but the type of mid-major that we would displace from the tournament would be a mid-major that has a 21-8 record against the #120 schedule in the country. I'm not sure that type of mid-major really has a reason to moan about UConn. It's not like Murray State will be left out because of us.....

And with that said, we still have some work to do.

Wally still remembers the cheers that went up in Boston and Hartford when he was traded by the Celts to obtain Ray Allen.

There may not be a trade in the history of sports to equal that one in the Hartford area.

Win 2 and then UConn is in the discussion again.

Who did he say was the best team? Duke? Miami (OH) lost to Kentucky.

UConn retired Dr. Tom Davis and Iowa in the S16.

There really is no correct way of choosing between a team with a high RPI and a questionable record and a team with a great record and a horrid RPI.

Mid Majors: SOS and Records:
  1. Colorado State, Mountain West, (18-10) (Lunardi = 12 seed)
  2. Memphis, CUSA, (22-8) (Lunardi = 8 seed)
  3. Marshall, CUSA (17-12)
  4. Xavier, A-10 (18-11)
  5. St Joes, A-10 (19-12)
  6. Temple, A-10 (23-6) (Lunardi = 6 seed)
  7. Portland, West Coast (7-24)
  8. UAB, CUSA (14-14)
  9. UNLV (24-7) (Lunardi = 6 seed)
  10. GW, A-10 (10-19)
  11. Dayton, A-10 (18-10)
  12. Northern Iowa, MVC (19-12)
  13. Southern Miss CUSA (24-6) (Lunardi = 9 seed)
  14. Duquesne A-10 (16-13)
  15. Wichita State MVC (26-4) (Lunardi = 4 seed)
  16. Missouri State (16-15)
  17. Air Force (13-14)
  18. SDSU (23-6) (Lunardi = 7 seed)
  19. Tesas-El Paso , CUSA (14-15)
  20. Bradley MVC (7-25)
  21. ECU (13-15)
  22. Towson, (1-30)
  23. TCU (17-12)
  24. Boise State (13-15)
  25. URI (7-23)
  26. Richmond (16-15)
  27. Evansville (15-14)
  28. New Mexico #94 (23-6) (Lunardi = 6 seed)
  29. Miami (OH) (9-19) Suck it Wally
  30. Pennsylvania (17-11)
  31. Austin Peay (12-20)
  32. UCF (20-9)
  33. Southern Illinois (8-23)
  34. Gonzaga (24-5) (Lunardi = 7 seed)
So every Mid-Major with a decent record and an SOS 101 or higher is in. The only team with 20 wins with a SOS 101 or higher not in is UCF whose SOS is near 100.

That UConn shouldn't get in over a mid-major. The mid-majors on the bubble (per Lunardi) are Xavier, St. Joes, Dayton and VCU. VCU is the only one with a considerably better record but also possess a SOS of about 180. Xavier, St Joes and Dayton all are behind UConn on whatever the bubble is.

VCU BTW has played 8 teams with an RPI 1-100 and are 4-4 in those games.

UConn has 16 games against teams with an RPI 1-100 and are 8-8 in those games.

So I'm not sure VCU's better record really tells you all that much.

Do you honestly expect UConn to get any support or sympathy from media types looking for the next VCU or Butler storyline? We've become the big bad wolf in their eyes. Get used to it.

We have had so much turmoil this year. It's not an excuse but maybe a reason we should get in. Unfortunately our guys didn't rise to meet and beat the challenges, but there is still hope and perhaps JC can ignite the fire.

Where does one begin?

Wichita St. is nationally ranked. They're in.

When he says UConn better not get in over a mid-major, does that means ALL mid-majors with a winning record? What's his pony? Who exactly is he riding?

We might be the big bad wolf in their eyes, but the NCAA and CBS both know that the ratings are twice as good when it is UConn vs. UNC than when it's VCU vs. Butler. For better or for worse, t's all about the Benjamins.... (for more on that, see college football realignment)

Listening to Francesca the last couple of days hearing him discuss college ball was pretty comical. I'm not going to feel confident that we're in until I see UConn flash on the screen during selection Sunday, but all the tourney prognosticators have us in right now, yet Fat Mike is saying on his show that UConn has to run the table in the BE tourney to have any shot of getting in.
