She is potentially a somewhat improved version of Kaitlyn Chen, what's not too like, how did that work out. Did we need herDo we really need Kayleigh? It wasn't like she burned up the court in any category.

Reasonable question considering who we have coming back. however my take is that if Geno & Chris want her on the team, and they've discussed the impact of that with the current roster, then it's good enough for me. IMO there's no way that Geno will upset the chemistry cart for one player.Do we really need Kayleigh? It wasn't like she burned up the court in any category.
Too much time on my hands….
I think it makes sense if it is out of respect for Serah Williams. But that might just be my UConn bias talking lol. What the Heckel is taking so long?
Our interest in Heckel may be us tipping our hand a bit. We know we aren’t getting Kate Harpring.Imo, we should concentrate on next year's Kayleigh Heckel. That would be Kate Harpring. She would be the PG for the future for the Huskies. I wouldn't want to discourage her in the least amount by piling up PG's this year. Harpring, Vukosa and Robinson in the 2026 class and Geno rides off into the sunset with 4 more National Championships.
It is always helpful to read the thread before commenting. Her Finals are next week. Are her semester grades in?
It’s May 3. I had several professors who didn’t have everything graded and posted by May 3 ( back in the a middle Ages)
So, she can’t officially sign until next week??????It is always helpful to read the thread before commenting. Her Finals are next week.

Well, if she comes and doesn't like it, she can transfer again. Seems like there is a lot of that going around. What the Heckel is taking so long?
So I'm not the only one who thought of this, probably at 3 am one day.My hunch is that all roads lead to Q. Geno probably told Q she can come back to UConn if she can't find a suitable landing place in the portal, so actually, there isn't a scholarship available for Kayleigh. This creates a bottleneck for all other schools who desperately wanted Kayleigh signed and they themselves are saving one for her (except Notre Dame, they have enough for 2 squads, lol!). .
Until Q finds a place there will be no news from Kayleigh. Just my guess, but I think it is a pretty good one![]()
Wouldn't it be ironic (karmic?) if Q came back, discovered a new resolve, and then won a starting position and led the team to #13?My hunch is that all roads lead to Q. kinda agree with your post (not so much from the loyalty part) i always go by the eye test and Kayleigh HeckelI don't see the interest in Heckel at all. She is a good player but she plays the same position as your best defender and leader, and she also is not very tall. Do you really need three guards under 5'8? But more than all of that I wouldn't risk losing the loyalty I have currently to add players that weren't loyal to me in the first place. If UConn gets too addicted to the portal it will end up ending what they have built over the decades.
It’s more the case that a freshman transfer can’t officially be accepted into their transcript indicates that they have completed 20% of their degree requirements, which likely includes their 2nd semester grades being submitted by their professors, who hopefully don’t sit on them before submitting them to the academic dean’s office. So, she can’t officially sign until next week??????
Totally disagree. Heckel would make the rotation at UConn. She would be one of the top 10 players.kinda agree with your post (not so much from the loyalty part) i always go by the eye test and Kayleigh Heckel
while certainly a good player who has has some sucess at a high level but in isn’t a “difference maker” and certainly doesn’t move the needle
on a 14 player roster
on the surface it seems to be saying that GA
doesn’t have confidence in some of the roster
I'm pretty sure we don't have any guards under 5'8". KK is listed as 5'9", Ash at 5'10", Kelis is listed anywhere from 5'9" to 5'11", Azzi at 5'11", Allie at 6'0", Morgan at 6'2". K9 would be another 5'9" guard if she comes. If she doesn't, it's impossible to tell how tall she might be.Do you really need three guards under 5'8?
Very interesting and informative post @oldude . But wouldn't the same degree requirements be in play for the portal entrant freshmen that committed to their new schools last month? Wouldn't they be in the same position as Heckel? Just wondering. As for Kayleigh, she has only completed 1 semester in her freshman year, along with whatever courses she was able to knock out last summer. She needs to complete 20% of her degree requirements by the end of her freshman year in order to meet NCAA eligibility requirements for next year. Spring semester finals at USC are this coming week. Kayleigh was an honor student at Long Island Lutheran, so I have no doubt that she will sail through her finals. But for all of us impatient fans at UConn, ND, Michigan St and Vandy, we're just going to have to wait a little bit longer to learn her final choice.![]()
Well, Avery Howell got accepted immediately to Washington and she was a freshman classmate of K9 at U$C...It’s more the case that a freshman transfer can’t officially be accepted into their transcript indicates that they have completed 20% of their degree requirements, which likely includes their 2nd semester grades being submitted by their professors, who hopefully don’t sit on them before submitting them to the academic dean’s office.
This doesn’t really apply to Kayleigh who just came into focus fairly recently but I thought you might want some entertainment in the midst of this thread (and it certainly doesn’t apply to Sarah Strong who was well worth the wait). What the Heckel is taking so long?
I think the issue isn't when she or the school made up their minds. It's about when the entire transaction has been approved by the NCAA. Some schools will pre-announce, assuming that approval is likely. It seems Geno has no interest in doing that.Well, Avery Howell got accepted immediately to Washington and she was a freshman classmate of K9 at U$C...
Maybe Geno told her she would not be the starting PG and she is having a hard time dealing with that thought vs going to a lesser school and definitely starting. That would not be an easy decision IMO.What the Heckel is taking so long?
