Vukosa is the Gatorade NPOY

Azzi won it as a sophomore. In fact she was one of 4 straight Huskies to win Gatorade POY: Megan, Christyn, Azzi & Paige.
I suspect that the last five years, particularly after this run you mentioned, there was “heavy” UConn fatigue” in the voter’s minds !!

I’m not sure if that’s how it works. But in all honesty, since Paige won the award, the only UConn recruit who you could make a legitimate argument for as National HS POY is Sarah. During Sarah’s senior year of HS, Joyce Edwards won the Gatorade POY. Edwards and Sarah were considered the top 2 players in the country. Their HS and AAU teams played each other on numerous occasions with Edwards team getting the best of Sarah’s team on all but one occasion.

As for the present day, there’s no longer any debate on who’s better, Edwards or Sarah.

I always wonder if awards like this (everything from Rookie of the Year to Heisman Trophy to Best New Artist Grammy) are just given for what someone has done so far, or whether they're in any way attempts to predict future success.

Joyce Edwards instead of Sarah????? That does not add much (or even any) credibility to the Award and how its winner is chosen. It was pretty clear that entire recruiting year that SS was far and away the class of that class and it wasn't even close.
I love watching Edward’s play. She’s going to great too. Remember that Edward’s didn’t have the benefit of Sarah’s playing time last year as she was coming off the bench. Just the way Staley structures her lineup.

In theory it's based on what you have done up to now...or more specific what you did in that season of high school (Gatorade) or college (Heisman, Wooden etc). So not on future potential.

In the human mind of the voter, there is plenty of flotsam and jetsum floating around that can impact the vote. The award sponsor sends out criteria and tallies votes, but does not audit the minds of the voters.

You say and I quote " she's going to be great too" and you may be right, but Sarah's great NOW!! With a ring and two beat downs over SC. I've heard tht Edward's team took 2 out of 3 games b4 they came to college but I'll bet people who watched Sarah said the same thg...."she's going to be great"....And they were right!! As far as coming off the bench, this year Edward’s playing more minutes thn Sarah....sooo I guess thts the way Geno structures his lineup....PEACE ✌🏾

Keep in mind that the Gatorade POY that Edwards won was for her play in HS. Edwards was big, strong and athletic, dominating everyone she played against in HS. Sarah’s all around game translates better to the college game than Edwards. But that’s not a consideration for the HS POY award.

I agree.
