I just wrote a huge Spackleresque rambling post, I pressed the wrong key on the keyboard and POOF it's gone. We're probably all better off for it too.
Bottom line up front: Assuming the ACC decides to replace Maryland with someone soon, the whole question will be settled on how many votes UConn can win. If Louisville is really being considered and Tom Jurich is pushing for it, then we could have a real problem on our hands.
The implied task is that Herbst and Warde are polling their ACC contacts and counting votes. Which has probably been a ongoing process since last fall.
Aside from academics, there isn't much to differentiate us from them. We have slightly more basketball cache, they have much more football cache. If the football centric schools like Clemson and FSU say they want Louisville and the rest of the ACC is cowed by the prospect of them leaving for the Big 12, then expect the ACC to be held hostage by that threat. UConn just isn't worth it the prospect of even more instability.
Louisville may have an inside track to the Big 12 that we don't know about, and this is a non-issue. Or Jurich might play the ACC and use that to force the Big 12 to make a move. That would be brilliant.
Lastly Here is my completely ignorant take on how schools in the ACC might vote, and I think the vast majority of them are undecided, but I could be completely wrong
Clemson: Louisville
FSU: Louisville
Miami: Swing but may be a Louisville lean...
Georgia Tech: Swing but I suspect a UConn lean
UNC: UConn
NC State: Swing
Wake Forest: UConn
Duke: UConn
UVA: Swing
Virginia Tech:Swing
Pitt:Swing
Syracuse: Swing
BC: Swing
ND: Swing
