You think you're going to do better than Seth Greenberg? You are nuts. Oh, and classy way to fire the guy too...

i thought it was funny how it happened. and yes you can do better than seth. vt is name brand school and they can pay up. they should have done this earlier and went after frank martin. i bet he would have been interested. if being on the bubble every year in a acc thats 2 teams deep then a tossup every year is really good, then i don't know what to tell you. maybe i'm young but i don't remeber vt ever being something special bball wise in the be or acc. but when besides unc and dook its a free for all a name brand school like vt should be able to do something better than bubble every year. fsu figured it out pretty quickly when the rest of the acc went on a downturn, how come vt couldn't? seth is a ok recruiter and a ok game coach. find someone thats above average at either of those and average at the other and now your talking...

Vtech is a very hard place to recruit to. You are about 200 miles from a bunch of colleges with much better basketball prestige than you have who are recruiting the same area. Greenberg was an OK coach for an OK program.

I feel like his teams were always the first or second team left out of the NCAA tournament almost every year. He's OK but I think they're ready for some new blood.

I can't stand Greenberg and his incessant whining every year.

Last year he was quoted as saying "Just disappointed. You almost wonder if someone in that room has their own agenda and that agenda doesn’t include Virginia Tech" when VPI didn't make the tourney.

He has yet to realize that the formula for making the tourney is simple: win a sizable number of games against good teams. His teams didn't do that.

Now thanks to VPI we will no longer have to hear his whining this coming March.

I'm sure they have their sights set on Shaka Smart.

Illinois job >>>>>> VPI job. If Shaka turned down the Illini, VPI would be foolish to think he'd take their job.

Seth has made 1 NCAA tourney with those facilities???

He's lucky he lasted as long as he did.

VaTech is not a great location but Greenberg had a pretty ordinary record, too. I'm not sure Shaka Smart would go there and I hope he won't...I frankly hope we're on the phone to him telling him that he's got the UCONN job for 2013-14. But I suppose even if he does end up at VaTech, he could still take the UCONN job.

The thing about Shaka is he's poised to have another great year next year. He only lost one player and apparently has a very nice class coming in. His stock is not likely to take any sort of hit by waiting another year to jump to a better program. Sure Virginia Tech would offer a pay raise, but so did Illinois.

I'm sure they have their sights set on Shaka Smart.

i honestly believe shaka is waiting for the uconn job to open up. illinois is a big time basketball school located in a talent rich part of the country and they were willing to pay him the big bucks and he turned it down. the guy is waiting for something bigger and it doesnt get bigger than replacing jim calhoun at uconn.

Virginia Tech is kind of an enigma....

They have a massive inferiority complex that extends all the way back to their days in the Metro Conference....

They positively dominate their media market....Christiansburg, Blacksburg, and all the way up the road to Roanoke, and all of the New River Valley....

And while folks often quack about how they are in this backwater, and it is impossible to recruit into that void....Somehow their football team manages to overcome that deficit....

In a practical sense, they are a team in a high profile conference....despite the geographic location of the school, they get media exposure as a function of their conference.

This strikes me as not a whole lot different than the problem a new coach might have had trying to draft talented players to come play for a doormat team in a big name D-1 conference, in some backwater town in Tolland County, Connecticut....

No way Smart turns down Illinois and goes to VT. No way.

Greenberg did OK but not good, let alone great. I guess the potential is there to have success, and you can't blame the AD for not being content with NIT trips year after year. I'd rather roll the dice on someone new.

It was pretty tactless the way he did it, though. Greenberg was hosting a recruit!

You'd think Greenberg eventually would have stepped up VT's OOC schedule so the team's SOS wasn't terrible year after year, but nope.
