Villanova Post Game Thread

During this stretch of ugly wins against inferior teams, the bench has contributed nothing offensively. Ross and Stewart seem determined to give up the ball as quickly as they get it. They are not even looking while making back cuts even though they are sometimes open.
I don’t see better alternatives on the team. if they can consistently play solid defense, rebound, and not turn the ball over … and every once in a while have a nice scoring game, I will take that. Both look better this year to me.

Maybe if Furphy hadn’t been hurt at the start of the year he could have been an option, but missing that time prevented him from being ready for this level of play. If Smith continues to struggle maybe we see some Millendar minutes

That's what I saw a shoulder to the head.

But there is also an arm across the throat. It doesn't looks like it from this angle. I would like to see a second angle.

I saw a head to the shoulder. BM reaching in, incidental contact. Going frame-by-frame, Villanova guy tried pretty hard to twist away to avoid contact.

Travis? It kills me.
@tennmike, I would like to apologize for this. I hate when people call the players by the wrong name or continually spell their names wrong. But I looked it up and every other time you've posted about Reed you called him Tarris so either it was just a brain fart, which happens to all of us, or it was indeed aa auto spell correct. So I would like to say sorry to you.

By the way, prayers to Mullins for a quick recovery. I will say this: i have no godly idea who we (people 50 and older) ever made it to adulthood. I remember when bike helmets had not been invented. Cars did not have seatbelts. And for those of us who played sports, getting your bell rung was a weekly occurrence. I don’t know what is happening to the human body, but this generation seems different. Like I said, don’t know how we made it to adulthood. But praying for this kid because he is a kid every parent would be proud of. Heal fast bud!
Yeah, all those hits to the head back in the day, and I don't see any...um...now what was I going say? I guess it couldn't have been that important.

Do you exhaust yourself? You exhaust everyone else
It's sad because Ruff is long-time Yarder whose posts I used to enjoy, even if I didn't always agree with him. These days his posts are mostly so unreasonable, long-winded and very repetitive that I lately have just skipped reading them. It's a bit of a shame.

I never remember him until this past year.

I wondered why a guy who I never heard of suddenly was posting constantly on every thread last year.

I’ve been here since 2011 I believe and he was never in the regular stable of posters from my recollection. Someone showed the other day he hadn’t posted between ‘14-‘24, so that checks out.

Villa

nova has no top 25 wins. How good are they really? I wasn’t that impressed myself.
FWIW, I reviewed their schedule and they played 3 ranked teams including us. Two of those 3 were close losses and one a beat down by Michigan. Many of their wins over good to not so good teams were by double digit scores.

I find it strange how all these metrics work but somehow they're ranked 28 without a win over a top 25 team. Makes me wonder if points scored, points allowed and score differential works in their favor.

As for the eye test, they look like a good pesty team that lacks important front court depth. I felt the same about the Hall when we played them, that got conveniently ranked in the top 25 the week we played them. Since then, they're in the throws of a 4 game loosing streak. Their schedule looked suspect with just the 1 top 25 win over NC State that was ranked 25 at the time but like SHU, have 6 losses.

Most BE teams are tough outs, but based on how the conference played OOC, sans UConn, the BE seems to be in a down year. SJU is a dangerous team due to their style of play and depth and are on a roll, but they lost all their ranked OOC games.

As much as I wish things were different, the talent level of the BE this year is not close to the B10, SEC and B12, and behind the ACC as well.

Lastly, the way the league is officiated, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, i.e. allowing ridiculous grabbing off the ball, constant bumping the handlers but then calling tricky-tack calls within the same game, allows lessor talented teams play more competitively against more talented BE teams.

Note that I don't put UConn's close wins completely due to this, since they've struggled at times to execute their offense even when not being held. And they've struggled shooting 3s, making layups and defensive rebounding. They have been much better defending without fouling. But I do feel the officiating has had an impact on how most BE games look like cross gang rumbles.

Everything said on a message board about CBB is pointless. Are you under the impression that you are doing something meaningful here? Lmao
No I've just never seen 18 pages in a post-game thread from a game that the team won🤣
