Villanova on Pause, Cancels Next 3 Games (Not UConn)

Great so they have 2 weeks to prepare for us...

.-.
So if there were two positives today, based on what happened in December with DePaul, CT DPH is not going to let UConn play Villanova on January 15 since it doesn't clear the 14 day window.
Agree. The UConn/Nova game will not happen since it sounds like new positive tests. Earliest they will let us play this game is January 17th or 18th. Sigh.

I hope CT DPH grew a pair over New Years

Not a chance we play them as scheduled.

So much for following the science. Making policies based on guidelines when data was all over the place and hanging on to those policies as more data comes in and guidelines have been revised is the most "Land of Steady Habits" attribute you can have.

The CDC recommends the 10 day quarantine if no symptoms are shown, both Villanova players have shown symptoms already. So that's already not relevant for 2 of the players, and from Jay Wright's comments he expects more positives tomorrow

Two symptomatic positives on the same day after players isolated in hotel rooms for six straight days (assuming they actually did isolate from one another) is not the same concern as one or more sporadic asymptomatic positives.

As harsh as it sounds letting team go home for Christmas was a bad idea.

Those 2 positive players practiced with the team yesterday so safe to assume more will probably test positive in the next week or so.

If they don't change the protocol, then the odds of a full-blown tourni happening are diminishingly small.

Our best hope at seeing our boys in late March is going to be a combination of:

1. Changing quarantining protocol prior to tourni.
2. Steady decline between now and then of cases and hospitalizations.
3. As widespread use of the vaccines as possible.

This is just our recreation, and that can't come before reasonable safety measures, and so forgive the inappropriate analogy, but, there are no atheists in foxholes in wars or among us fans when the tourni is on the line. I'll say a quick prayer.

The amount of culture Jay Wright can instill in a team in two weeks is a scary thought.
They’ll be rusty. We will be sharp as a tack. They might as well take another week off and just forfeit to us.

Oof. Highly likely that there could be many more than just 2 positives going forward if they were asymptomatic/minimally symptomatic at a full practice a day before getting positive tests.

Edit: If they were going full-contact, with no or sporadic masking, the whole damn team could end up positive for COVID, and it will happen (new positive tests) likely over a window of 1/5 - 1/10...potentially extending out further than that

Hell of a job by the best commissioner in basketball. Did she plan this so they’d be rested for a late season run?
Why would you bring a conversation from another thread into this one?

Will be interesting to see how it impacts their rankings. Can’t punish them for being idle but not playing can’t help them either.
