Very OT: CT Divorce Attorney Needed

Any recommendations? After 18 years of marriage I find myself in need of a good divorce attorney, preferably in the Hartford area. If you know of anyone who is both effective and reasonable, please reply. Seems odd to post this here, but I figured a few of you may have gone through this and may have some good info. for me.

All I will say about divorce is that after all the emotional crap it all comes down to money.Try to sit down with your wife and work out a financial agreement. The more you can work out together the more you will save both in money and emotional damage. Good luck.

Yes, if you go through joint mediation it's a fraction of cost of full on divorce. All predicated that you soon to be X and you can agree on split of assets, any custody stuff.

Having gone through this whole process, it is stomach turning. As mentioned before it all comes down to money. If you are a successful male in CT and are the main provider be prepared to pay a fixed percentage of your income in child support and alimony. The more you make the more you will pay. Child support in itself it not such a terrible thing, the money is supposed to go to your children's support. Unfortunately there is no system to monitor how that money is spent so if the ex wants to vacation with her friends with it there is nothing you can do. I hope your wife has some backbone and uses it as she should. Mine did not.

Also remember the process is just that. No emotion or fairness is considered, just the law. If you have children under 21 more than likely your wife gets the house and its contents. In my cases because I owned a small sales business they valued it just enough to give her the house free and clear. Hope you both worked and it should turn out more equitable. The whole process is dehumanizing and the lawyers are in this to make money so keep that in mind. They do there job and look for a new client. This is a business transaction for them.

I know this sounds very depressing and it is, if you can work this out through mediation do it. Good luck and try to think things through even though your mind will be anything but focused.
