Great point guard in college and pros. She was a coach on the floor.Really? Why would she make a great head coach? Does she have ANY coaching experience?

I think of Rebecca as the Diane Sawyer of basketball analysts, as she brings a very warm and personal touch and is of course very personable and likeable. They are awesome together- Awesome. Each has there role. But Kara shines a little bit brighter in my eyes. But they are a great great team! The studio is made for Rebecca. Announcing the games is not her "thing" naturally.
Kara played during a period when UCONN dominated the Tennessee. I remember her being the only Lady Vol player on those teams who scared me. She was super-intense and super-competitive.agree here, Blue: if memory serves, and that's a big "if", Lawson pulled out several games late for the Vols during her senior year. She has one of the most invaluable intangibles, a major amount of guts. Geno talks about kids, in this day and age, who don't know how to play to win: Lawson knew.
Shea has more... and still doesn't qualify to some #smhReally? Why would she make a great head coach? Does she have ANY coaching experience?
We like Shea where she is thoughShea has more... and still doesn't qualify to some #smh
talking about after Geno retiresWe like Shea where she is though![]()
Don't get me wrong, I also know Kara was a great leader at UT, and her impartiality is evident every time she's on. I believe she had a hand in having a little chat, along with other UT past great players, with this years team that inspired a turn-around. Cut her finger and she bleeds UT orange. Kara tells it like she sees things, good, bad, or in different, no matter who, or what team is the topic. She doesn't allow her feelings for UT interfere with her job at ESPN. That's what makes her one of the best, if not the best.I for one am glad she played for UT. It brings a certain impartiality to her opinions on the Husky's.
Ohtalking about after Geno retires
I have to thank meyers7 for my avatar.... when he first posted this pic on the Warlick thread, in reference to Tennessee having an offense... I literally spit out my drink.... Needless to say, even if he hadn't put on a caption... I saw that these people in the pic really got it.... I mean look at them.... they really get it... now I can't stop laughing everytime I look at this pick, because I know they get how funny it is mentioning Tennessee and Offense in the same sentence.... So thank you meyers7... for making me laugh so hard everyday![]()
As long as Pat is still so visible sitting right down front at games, no coach is going to be able to come in and run their own program. The problem with retired legends is they are still around.I will tell you right now that the person I would not want to see take over the Lady Vols is Scott Rueck. Given those resources and the approach he has coached Oregon State with during his tenure there Tennessee would be very dangerous very quickly. His approach has all the right corrections to the problems at TN. Recruit character, team players, and make sure every player buys into the program before they ever step on campus and that the expectation is that you will have to earn your court time.
Like to see anybody do that takedown.I really want to see Kara do a takedown of Stephen A Smith.
Ohhhh this is a hot topic, indeed, on a certain orange tinted board.....Tennessee would be better with Kara Lawson as the HC than they ever were,IMO!
Meanwhile she can just do her analysis and clearly show by doing it that she is clearly the most knowledgeable studio host on that station and probably in the country. Hubie Brown is the only basketball analyst that I can think of who might be better.Don't look for that to happen for three reasons:
1. She's still the new kid on the block at ESPN. In addition to having his own show at ESPN - First Take (with Skip Bayless & Molly Qerim who is a UConn grad by the way), Steven A also has enough status and cachet at the world wide leader for her to not want to necessarily get into a urinating contest with him at this time.
She's still trying to secure a "toe hold" in the industry. An ill-advised act of that nature might not look good on her resume' for the future with respect to tenure and retention. She's doing a great job there, no reason to muddy the waters if you don't have to.
2. She may not feel that is her fight (right now). Remember its a wise man/woman who picks their battles carefully. There's always tomorrow.
3. If she chose to do so on camera, it would have to be with the blessings of the show's producer. That might not be a direction they want the show to go in. When you "rip" someone, there's always consequences.
Just ask Dan Shaughnessy.
You too !I really want to see Kara do a takedown of Stephen A Smith.
