Or will they earn a return?

At Georgia: Georgia beats Vandy 76-74. A back/forth game...a good one.. Gerogia looked good...shot well...my bet is they
will turn up in The Dance.

Note Blakes had 27 points for Vandy.. somewhat incredibly she was 20-21 from the free throw line.
She is the type who swishes just about every one.

That was one of the most ridiculously officiated games I've ever seen. Those 3 officials should face some consequences for their actions/lack of actions. Just brutal

I tried to find the UConn record for free throws for a [woman] UConn player in one game.
Couldn't find it. I wonder what the record is...and who did it?
Just a guess...Maya Moore.

.-.
If Sascha Washington makes her layups, the horrible officiating would not be a factor.

Coach Abe's team does the same thing they did at UCF. Beat the hell out of the other team with the assumption that they won't call everything. And these officials didn't.

TX tied at TN at the half, so this story isn't over - elsewhere, MD is beat tOSU (committee vindication?), KY beat up OleM, and Duke with an important win against UNC, a game they repeat at UNC to end the season.

Still to come today
MichSt/Mich
WV/TCU
OK/Bama

After 2 big home wins, the game today against unranked UGA was a “trap game.” Vandy spent less than a week as a #1 seed.
Another reminder how difficult it is to remain unscathed with a target on your back
Going all the way back to UAlbany coach Abe has consistently played aggressively is the most gentle way I could describe it
Go Vandy

Well, as I said in another thread, we beat Tenn by 30, and Texas only beat them by 2, so I'm not sure that pops TX back up over Vandy for the last #1 seed.

Remaining games:
Texas - Arkansas, Miss St, GA, AL
Vandy - Kentucky, AL, Tenn

Bascom made 19 free throws....does it say how many she took?
Blakes had 21 attempts...Bascom beat that?

The current media guide didn't give the number of attempts, but I found an older guide from 2012 which gave the results as 19 for 21 and 16 for 16(!).

The Division 1 record is 26 for 26 by Kelsey Minato of Army West Point in 2014.

Yep, I got it wrong. I didn't think MD was that good.

Texas is not covering themselves with glory in squeaking past Tennessee. Still a loss to Georgia is hard to look past, no matter how poorly officiated it might have been. And yes, Coach Abe teaches a form of bully ball that is almost shocking to watch.

I think the SEC has the biggest home court advantage in WCBB, and it has been that way forever. That is why the lack of home and home in conference play creates such an imbalance to the results. Play the tough games at home vs on the road and your team should do really well, compared to the chump who played them mostly on the road. Add in the now longer road trips as well.

Vandy played SC on the road, but got LSU and TX at home, and the get KY as their H/H
TX got LSU H/H and at SC and at Vandy
LSU got TX H/H and SC Home and at Vandy
SC got Vandy and TX home and LSU on the road and their H/H was Bama

SC and Vandy got easier schedules (2H, 1A) and TX got the hardest (1H, 3A), LSU the second hardest (2H, 2A.)

Not surprisingly the records
SC - 3-0 with a road win at LSU
Van - 2-1 losing on the road
LSU - 1-3 losing a home game
TX - 1-3 winning at home.

I think SC is the best, but suspect TX is second best, and who knows between LSU and Vandy.

(No conspiracy here - I don't think anyone knew how good Vandy would be, so ...)

Texas looked terrible, would welcome them as the fourth #1 seed at the F4. We will have no problem with them, with my only concern being SC and UCLA.

They certainly called enough, as Blakes' 20 FT attempts will attest.

Watching the game, I didn't get the sense that Georgia was being overly physical--or any more physical than an SEC team. This is a different brand of basketball.

19-21 from the line? 16-16 also? Seems like Kerry could swish them as well.

I just googled Kerry out of curiosity. I found a link with a long article about her...could not get it linked here.
It was fascinating with many details about her career as a player and then her post grad career.
I could not stop smiling after I read it. Maybe someone else can link it...very much worth a read.

A few details here: Graduated from UConn in 1991...team went to final 4 in senior year...Geno's first AA
player. Played in pros overseas...coached at New Hampshire...a real homebody. Currently leading a service organization for developmental disability patients....in New Hampshire of course.

Lost to Virginia in NCAA semis in 1991...Virginia aided by none other than Tonya Cardoza!

Kerry and Geno have lots of nice things to say about each other in the article. Lobo came to UConn as a frosh in 1992.
Hmm...would she have come had not Bascom's team in 1991 made a national splash?

Question for you: Geno compares Kerry's basketball skills to another UConn player...take a guess as to who.

Hint One: member of current squad
Hint Two: think of a high level skills player.
Hint Three: ignore Hint Two..think of a very, very high skills player.

Who does Geno compare her to? Many imaginary...and valuable...prizes to
the winners.

I would love to see Vandy back at #1 but their schedule, last three games are against ranked teams and one of those is against rival Tennessee, does not do them any favors. So, anything can happen. Georgia has been a tough team to face all season and as we all know that SEC is tough and physical. Always has been and it will continue to be a tough, physical, and one of the greatest conferences of women's basketball, and I am saying that as a Big Ten guy. The SEC is legit.

I think SEC basketball is just more physical. Blakes definitely draws fouls and gets the benefit of a lot of calls in her favor. It was a good back and forth game to watch.

Vandy remains a 1 seed till the next reveal on March 1st. Then they have till March 15 to do well enough in the SEC tournament to make another run at getting a 1 seed. In the meantime we can amuse ourselves with calculation and speculation!

.-.
I would say yes. I personally think they are the 4th best team in the SEC.
