Vandy signed its first, and possibly only, recruit this morning, 6'3 Trinity Wilson of Lakeview, Mn. A true post who seems to do all her work in or near the paint, which is something the Dores need. Interesting side note: The article says Trinity's mother played at UConn on the undefeated national championship team in 1995... Brenda Marquis.

The only other outstanding offer I know of is to Mikayla Blakes, ESPN's ninth-ranked player, who is still very quiet about her decision.

Shoot around this morning at UT-Martin. Vandy's first road game is today at 5:30 CST. Game will be on ESPN+. A good chance for Shea's fans to watch them play because of the unique starting time. Game should be a good lead up to the Iowa-Virginia Tech game at 7 CST on ESPN 2. That's my plan, at least.

Vandy rallied late to win 70-68 after trailing by 12 in the third period. Had an awful night missing point-blank shots, but the defense finally took over the last four minutes or so. Not sure they really deserved the win, but, hey, 2-0 is 2-0.

Jordyn Cambridge 16 pts., 12 reb., 6 assists, 4 steals.

For what it is worth, UT-Martin was picked 4th this year in the OVC and traditionally has been a good mid-major program. That said, squeaking out a victory at home is not great, still better than a loss but the program has growing to do.

The game was actually at UT-Martin, but your point is still valid.

Coach Ralph on the victory
“I’m really proud. We had a hard time guarding them, especially in the first half of the game. We work a lot on our defense and take a lot of pride in it, but I love the challenge we were faced with today. UT Martin is a great team. I love playing them and this is a tough place to play. Hats off to them because they made us work for everything. The message to my team is you need to focus on every possession to win. Games are never won or lost in the first half, plays have to be made throughout the game and we did a good job at that tonight.”

@YoDore Can you please have your team win by more than a few points. Last three games have been wins by 2-3-3 points. I dont want KLS getting gray hair. She has enough stress being a new mom.
Thanks!!

Makarut with a clutch 3 pointer late in the game.

Check out KLS on the bench with the fist pump and the shout after the shot was made.

I've noticed Katie Lou is not blonde anymore. I assumed it was by choice, but now that I think about it, I wonder if all these tight games are having an effect.

Makurat was terrific tonight. Vandy won by three over a good Western Kentucky team. She hit five threes (four in the second half) and two free throws with less than three seconds left to give the Dores a three-point lead.

RIght now, this team can't figure out how to play with a lead. They blew almost all of a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter Sunday, then let an 11-point second-half lead get away tonight. The good news is, they still managed to win. The bad news is, Katie Lou and I are getting older by the minute.

But....4-0.

Coach Ralph's Western Kentucky postgame along with her daughter and Jordyn Cambridge's little bro. :) I love hearing Shea talk basketball and about her team.

If you're suffering just unbearable boredom this afternoon, you could watch Alabama State at Vandy at 1 p.m. (CST). Shouldn't be much of a game, but Vandy has a way of turning riches to rags. To be honest, though, even nervous nellie me can't see that happening today.

I need something to do instead of work today. :)

Vandy 6-0 for the first time since 2011. Had a bad shooting game (38 percent and only 25 percent from three), but the defense was stellar. And, the Dores were 15 of 16 at the FT line. They face Northern Iowa tomorrow on FloHoops at 3:30 CST.

This was such an important win for them. It’s easy to feel good about being up on mid-majors, but Vandy would not have beat this Iowa State team last year (but I’m not sure this year’s team would compete with a Joens led ISU).

Either way, things are looking up in Nashville.

Well, Vegas, but you know what I mean.

Had an 18-point second-half lead, blew it down to a one possession game, missed four of six FT in the final minute and still found a way to win. This team is not good for my health, but....7-0.
I'm sure there will be some good teaching moments regarding how to keep up the intensity.

Shea is doing an excellent job with Vandy, which is probably the toughest coaching job in the SEC given its academic rigors. They’ve played a softer schedule overall but have two quality wins over Western Kentucky and Iowa State.

ESPN has named Vanderbilt its "Team of the Week" after the Dores moved to 7-0 with two wins at the South Point Shootout. It doesn't mean very much except that it is pretty much the first positive national attention the program has gotten in the last decade. The exception was the hiring of coach Ralph, which did get positive attention. ESPN's comments:

"Once a perennial NCAA tournament team, Vanderbilt has struggled the past decade: The Commodores' last NCAA tournament appearance was in 2014, and last winning record was in 2016.

"Longtime UConn assistant Shea Ralph took over in 2021, going 26-35 in her first two years. This season Vandy is 7-0, winning the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas over the weekend with victories over Iowa State and Northern Iowa.

"Guard Jordyn Cambridge has been a Commodore a long time: the Nashville native started her Vandy career in 2018. She missed last season because of an injury but is averaging 14.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.4 steals per game. We'll see how Cambridge and the Commodores fare against NC State this week."
