Vanderbilt 2025

Vandy freshman Monique Williams, 6'3, should be able to help the team this year. She's tough and physical and can play 3-5. Loves to rebound.

She's a 6'1 wing who plays at Princess Ann High School in Virginia and is the #7 recruit on ESPN's Hoopgurlz for the class of '27. She was an outstanding performer for the U16 national team that recently won a gold medal. Coach Ralph now has offers out to four of the 12 players who were on that elite U16 team, the others being Ivanna Wilson Manyacka, Jasman Bailey and Caroline Bradley.

SI follow up

A peculiarly uninformative article. It hints at a problem with Khamil herself, and hints at the earlier postseason noise about leaving being just an NIL negotiation. Is that true? Can’t tell from this article. Too much innuendo publishing is not good for college sports.

This came across more like an opinion piece more than a follow up to me.

That's how I viewed the piece.

As a casual fan of the SEC it did provide me some context. Pierre was one of the best high school players in Arizona history so I was interested both in her original decision to leave the state (how could she turn down the1.2 million fashionista - or for that matter Molly Miller, then at GCU) but the Harvard of the SEC beckoned.

It's absolutely an opinion piece. But the hinting innuendo style is the part that irritates me. Joey Dwyer is touted as "the lead writer on the Vanderbilt Commodores" on SI. He should know better than he lets on here. This sort of writing is insulting to the players, the sport and the fans.

Over time there has be an evolution (degeneration?) in the approach taken by pundits presenting editorial/opinion "non fiction" writing. Like you, I have clear views on what constitutes a civil, thoughtful perspective. Little rises to thoughtful and civil perspective, so I tend to filter out the objectionable in my consideration of the thesis or perspective. But, yes, it is very irritating.

Maybe the word degradation would be a better fit? Agree with this sentiment, along with @Bone Dog .

I figure this deserves a spot on the Vanderbilt thread.

I feel like Blakes is about to put up some insane scoring numbers with Pierre out this year

I also think Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda has been waiting patiently for an opportunity like this. I liked her since she was a freshman, in her 3 or 4th game she dropped like 12 on UConn. This was also the game Azzi went nuclear, but I thought she had a bright future. She has had moments but Texas has had solid players in the pf sf position. Also with Sacha Washington coming back, they do get help scoring as well.
