I was at the UVA - Duke game tonight and got to see two things I hadn’t seen this year. UVA’s 1st ACC win by a 67-54 score over Duke. And Mir McLean in person! I haven’t watched Duke before so don’t know if they played differently than usual, but UVA’s defense was relentless. They didn’t look like an 0-14 (3-20 overall) team at all.

Mir was just terrific. 12 points, 14 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks. She was aggressive, even posting up a 6’3” player multiple times. In person, she was smaller than I expected, but she sure can jump. She also was very good at positioning around the basket… and oh what a battler. Plus, her enthusiasm was beautiful to see. At one point, late in the game, she was the one who pulled the players on the court together during a break in play. I was sorry to see things not work out at UConn for her, but she’s already the best talent on UVA. now we have to wait and see how the coaching situation turns out.

That score was a stunner, for sure. Probably closes the door on Duke's NCAAT chances, unless they can make a deep run in the ACCT.

Duke certainly didn’t look like a tournament team tonight.

Props to EO Smith’s McKenna Dale as well, who has been given more of an opportunity.

Actually. in the game against Wake forest which I was able to see on ACC channel, Mir must have drawn 3 offensive fouls in 1 Q alone. That is a stat that should be routinely reported as well as # of fouls drawn. Would not mind seeing deflections as well.

It may be a coincidence but on Feb. 10th, Virginia forfeited to Louisville because of a mechanical problem with Virginia's charter plane.
And then on Feb. 17th, Virginia wins an upset against Duke and Louisville loses by one point to NC 66-65.
Both involved ACC games.

...just shows how deep and talented and dominant an offensive team Connecticut is, if a player that can't even rate court time with the Huskies can leave, join another P5 team, and start registering double-doubles there against conference opponents......

Let's be clear, yes, Mir is a solid player and was ranked #25 in Hoopgurlz in 2020 and is the best player on Virginia. That said, Virginia is the 3rd worst P5 school at #174 NET, only ahead of Illinois #206 and Wisconsin #214 so let's not get too euphoric.

So I guess Virginia is playing Virginia, in order for McLean to gather those stats.......

Show me a post that shows euphoria. They just complimented Mir. No need to be negative. That's all she ever got when she was here.

Shame they had to forfeit their game against ND on the Feb. 22nd.

Any idea why?
No one has made a statement yet, but something nasty is going on behind the scenes of a 4-20 team I reckon.

Mechanical problems with the charter plane.
No. That was the reason given for the forfeit at Louisville last week.
The ND game was going to be in Charlottesville.
UVa does have two other home games remaining on the 20th and 24th.
Maybe Thompson didn't want the team playing three games every other day just before the ACC tournament?

Thanks for the correction.
I can find any stated reason for the ND forfeit, perhaps VA didn't want to play ND on 2 days rest after Pitt, when they have to play NC 2 days afterward on the 24th, which is a regularly scheduled game.
ND was a rescheduled game, so maybe Coach Tina is protesting the game being rescheduled on short rest.
And maybe she doesn't want to make any complaints over the timing of the rescheduling public.
