This is a bloodbath. Hope this team doesn't peak too early.

It should be 4-0. El Salvador's keeper is keeping them in the game. Love what Klinsmann is doing with the set pieces.

Likely to get costa rica again in the semis. Going to be tough to get them a third time in a row.

I'm really impressed by the turnout for this GC. CONCACAF starting to look like a real player when it comes to interest in our own region. Best part is that it can't get raided like the BE.

BTW Salvador hanging in against CR. We could see an upset and it's getting chippy. 0-0 Half

Hmmm... Australia left Oceania for the Asian conference, right? So could Mexico pull a BCU and go to CONMEBOL? Then we get left behind while HFD spins conspiracy theories that we turned down CONMEBOL twice because we have a secret invite from UEFA coming any day now...

Nice game by the US side. I think there are a couple things to take away from this game:

1) Eddie Johnson is the best striker on that roster (now), even with Wondo having scored a boat-load of goals in the group stage. It makes me wonder if Gomez is the odd man out come World Cup time.
2) Unlike Subbabub, I think Beckerman had a very strong game and Diskerud was decent. The fact that Holden didn't come into the game maybe tells me that Klinsmann still doesn't believe he is match ready yet.
3) Poor Nick Rimando. A hell of a keeper, and yet probably knows he has no chance in hell of seeing the field in the World Cup, since Howard is entrenched and Guzan is the #2. Still, great game.

Well, that's all I've got. We'll see what the next game brings. Don't be surprised to see Beckerman and Johnson both starting the next game...

My takeaway is that JK is a heck of a coach.

Glad to see the U.S do well, don't loathe soccer, don't want to stifle free exchange of ideas but . .. .wondering if USMNT threads better left to another part of board (pro sports?, Olympic sports). If 'perception' is part of the CR game can't imagine what a Michigan/Tennessee/BYU visitor to this board might think about a soccer discussion on the football board. Just sayin'. Give me a straight red. My 2 cts.

I would not write off Rimando's chances yet. That would be what I'd take from the game.

I will apologize to everyone for dooming UConn to the American by starting a soccer thread on the football board.

I should know by now that conference realignment decisions are made because of the impressions of BYU fans who for some reason decide to check in on UConn football 15 months before they play.

You know the same BYU fans who don't think it's an issue to have multiple wives.

I have been following the USMNT for the last 30 years. There has (obviously) never been a stretch were they have won 9 games in a row. But the thing that most impresses me is the amount of offense / goals that we are producing. In the last 4 games we have scored 6 goals twice, and 5 goals another time. I realize someone can point out the level of competition, but in the past when we were playing the same level of competition and we never had offensive performance of this caliber. Also you can make the point of the great depth we have. This gold Cup team our B or B+ team. Just to name a few players that we are missing on this team ( Dempsey,Altidore, Bradley, and Howard ) . They are arguably are 4 best players. Glad to see Landon Donovan playing so well. They are a fun team to watch.

for chissakes no reason to be defensive. It's how memes get started, right or wrong. All you need is a Finebaum or a Doyel to latch on to it - "Two weeks before UConn opens summer camp, and over on their football message board, they're talking -- wait for it -- U.S. soccer???" and you find out it's yet another misconception that has to be fought. Like "UConn didn't send anyone to the Fiesta Bowl". Wrong, but that turned out to be the perception. . . . . throw the ball in for the free kick

When Uconn's "beat" writers start covering the football team in their papers/media outlets, I'll start worrying about whatever is posted on this board. Last I checked there hasn't been a single thing written about by the people who get paid to do it and there's two weeks to go. There's not much to talk about and to be honest, many folks frequent the bball or Fball board so having a conversation about this is more likely to happen here. Not sure why it really matters anyways.

And what is THAT supposed to mean? This is a football board. Certainly when USMNT is at Rent this is the place to come to talk about stadium issues because that's where the football team plays. But lots -- most -- football fans don't care for soccer. I tried to make the point diplomatically. next thing I know BYU fans are all in favor of "Sister Wives" yikes.

That set piece corner kick for the first goal was awesome.

Anyone catch Donovan put on a pair of sunglasses that were thrown on the field late in the game. Apparently the ES fans were tossing a bunch of stuff at the US players late.

Yes, the first time Finebaum talks about UConn his angle is going to be the message board had some people discussing a soccer game - even though dozens of college football boards had the same (you know like the Michigan link).

If the only topics on this board were literally related to UConn football there would be 4 active threads two weeks before spring practice. One of them would be pointing out we don't have enough of a fanbase to have beat reporters who actually write stories.

Somehow that would be better?

If you think you tried to make the point diplomatically - god bless ya. You tried to actually draw a parallel between discussing a soccer game and conference realignment.

Parallel? you mean "tie" or "link". I'll be the first to say it's a tenuous one. But outsider with an agenda could make the attempt. gnight

I think it's just a sign UConn fans are still shellshocked about CR that now we're questioning everything thinking that someone from another conference is watching and judging... like "oh gawd what's going to go wrong now"? What we need Vince Vaughn to give us a pep talk...

Things will be better for UConn when Finebaum actually cares enough to have an agenda. You talked about Tennessee and BYU fans: I mean come on - you were the one looking to stretch logic into a pretzel.
