Saw USF play last night against Albany. The final score was 74 - 37 USF. I don't think anyone would be surprised. So here is the breakdown of USF.
Starters:
PG - Sydni Harvey - 5' 10" freshman
SG - Laura Ferreira - 5' 11" senior
Wing - Kitija Laksa - 6' 0" senior
F - Alyssa Radar -6' 2" junior
C - Beatriz Jordao - 6' 3" freshman.

Main Subs:
C - Tamara Henshaw - 6' 1" junior
C - Shae Leverett - 6' 2" sophomore
PG - Elisa Pinzan - 5' 9" freshman

Jose has brought in some height to his front line. Radar and Jordao can board. Jordao is the bigger scoring threat. After a 17 point game against Ohio State she was held to 7 by Albany. Harvey is the real deal at the point. Quick first step, sees the floor well. Can drive the lane for a short j, dish off or go for the layup. She also has a nice stroke from 3. Ferreira has a good game last night - 21 points. She hits from 3, drives the lane and has a nice short jumper in the lane. Laksa is Laksa. No quams about shooting the three. Her shooting percentage is not that high because too many of her shots are shot off of one foot. When she squares to the basket and has both feet planted, she can be deadly accurate. Albany did not give her a lot of room for open shots. Henshaw has really improved since her freshamn season. Good shot selection with a nice 15 footer. She has learend how to box out on the boards and she is stronger. Good defense. Leverett can board and score some. Pinzan acts like a gunner. Took some poor shots last night.

Jose's offense hasn't changed much. Guards dribble around the top of the key trying to get penetration in the lane. No evidence at all of the high/ low game at all. Don't know why. He has the bigs to do it. Too much dribbling and not enough passing in the offense. Passing was poor last night. A lot of passes were high and negated any effect of gaining an advantage. I'll give them the fact that this was their second game but still, should not be happening from juniors and seniors. Laksa is still the focal point of the offense but she has more help this year. Harvey, Ferreira and Jordao can all average double figures each game. That will be key for the Bulls success, IMO.

One fan said that Harvey was really quick with her first step, probably the best in the league. Didn't have the heart ot tell him her first step is behind Crystal and Christyn. They'll find out on Jan 13 when they enter Gampel.

On a side note, USF has a very nice setup for season ticket holders. Not only very good seats, we are 4 rows up from courtside, but they serve a buffet dinner starting 90 minutes before tip off, including a well stocked bar. The entire "restaurant" area is reserved for those Club area season ticket holders. Its open the entire game.
