My answer will probably not be definitive but let me tell you what I have been doing. I have been fed up with the TV BB announcing culture for several years. SNY has been an exception in pretty much staying with the game on the court but the big networks, led by ESPN, have been terrible in changing to an "entertainment" philosophy. Prepared scripts with human interest back stories seem to take precedence over the game. They feel the air has to be filled with chat, ALL-THE-TIME. It is just a reflection of the growing social media culture taking over most of the communication media. Personal rant over. So, whenever possible I use the audio feed from the radio coverage and mute the TV audio. That can sometimes leave you a little puzzled or curious as to what the heck they might be talking about as you see non-game graphics splattered cover the game coverage but at least while that stuff in on the screen (Like I saw Charlie covering a third of my screen for several minutes of the game last night) you are hearing a description of what is actually happening in the game. How easy it is to get the audio and video synchronized depends on who is doing the TV and what equipment/devices you use to watch/listen. For example, with WTIC doing the radio and SNY covering the video, I often had to do nothing to get the two synced to an acceptable level. Now that the radio is on a relative weak station (ESPN radio 97.9), the sync is not so good. With ESPN or CBSN the results can vary. Since I watch from a TV with a DVR, I have the ability to delay the video. So what I now have resorted to is to pick up the radio audio via the internet (Learfield IMG College Sports). The "tune-in" link to this is always on the UCONN website on-line schedule. That audio feed is delayed by 10-15 seconds from broadcast. So all I need to do is use my DVR to delay my video until the video is either slightly ahead of or exactly equal to the audio. What I find totally unlistenable is when the audio leads the video. Unfortunately, the next UConn game is only via streaming on ESPN3. I do not think I can synch the Audio/Video on ESPN3 so I likely will be listening to the ESPN prattle with the rest of you for that game. After that, I should be able to sync the internet audio feed with the ESPN TV coverage for as long as UConn plays. I went and watched some of the TV replay today and man it did suck. Thank you Bob and Debbie!
