They have put together a ground only package for those people that do not like to figure it out themselves. At least they are trying to get us to go to another away game.
UConn should have tried to put a bus trip together for Rutgers.

1) They are still way behind the curve
2) The prices are still outrageous.
3) At least they are trying, if we behaved like Rutgers we'd give ourselves a participation trophy or something.

Uconn fb = snore ... If I traveled to Florida I'd rather spend my time getting blitzed at a tiki bar listening to Jimmy Buffet's cheese burgers in paradise while watching the game on ESPN. It would help numb the pain of a George offense

Did I miss something in the email or was it essentially a block of hotel rooms and pre-game reception? Not exactly a complete package... And not exactly a good deal either.

That was my interpretation. Basically it said: "You are on your own to get there, get tickets & return home but we will supply the hotel!"

saw it, didn't read it. why would they organize this for the farthest possible road game this season? nice effort, but do this for something that isn't an airplane flight away for everyone! RU, Cuse, MD....not USF!

The game two years ago was as exciting as it got. And our offense was atrocious. One of my top5 UCONN sporting event moments.

I checked the prices at the hotel directly. $178/night for 2 adults including taxes, cancellable = $356 for 2 people, 2 nights. The UConn package is $690 for 2 people, 2 nights, but includes a reception at $50 per head, and transportation to the stadium which is 10 miles. So, for 2 people, I can get the same hotel for $356, pay $100 for the reception, and have $234 to find my own transport to the stadium!

C'mon UConn, you can do better than this.

Does it inlcude game tickets? If so, it's not as horrible as it sounds. But, UConn is definitely behind on the official road trip. At other schools is it standard practice to pay a fundraiser premium for the official trip package, but not as much as UConn wanted for the Fiesta Bowl. The official trips usually have some perks you wouldn't get on your own and can vary by destination.

The standard grab bag of goodies can include, breakfast, police escort to the game, pre-game tailgate reception (open bar anyone!), being in the Team's hotel, snacks and drinks on the ride back, a souveneir gift, group host. In general, it can be a hassle free trip surrounded by fellow fans. I don' know if UConn still uses World Tek as their travel consultant but, most of the big schools use Premiere Sports Travel for this kind of thing.

Quite frankly, UConn should formally contract with Ryan Phalen or the Baseball Bus folks. They are a much better value, and they have proven that there is a market for affordable group transportation to these games. Every package I've ever seen from UConn has been so overpriced as to be laughable to consider... I want to support my alma mater but I don't have unlimited funds.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I always thought that those packages were marked up to cover the costs of all of the Uconn staff that were traveling along.

I don't disgaree with you. People pay for convience I guess... I'd be interesting to see when the Worldtek contract expires. They do a good job but you pay a premium!

Or you can stay at the Holiday Inn Express that's a 10 minute walk from the stadium on N. Dade Blvd and pay between $80 and $113 per night (they also have free shuttles to the game, at least they did in 2010). BDL to TPA fri-sun $329 on cheaptickets.com, 1 stop. About $600 per person total, not too expensive and a great location.

Definitely an area the university could improve. Assuming that was intended to be read by graduates of their university you would have to be an idiot to. Purchase the package. All of us can surf the web and various sites for much much Better deals
Would like to see
Complete air fare hotel and shuttle packages
Tickets included
A university sponsored tailgate at the stadium
Priced to be less expensive than one can do it oneself. A fri through sun vacation package for a single around 500 with everything would be much more reasonable

It can never be cheaper than on your own.

If you can do it, go. Tailgating is real good, the before, after game scene is great. The stadium and hotels are all easily accessible. You can get a free hotel shuttle to/from the airport. Less than $20 cab rides to any good nightspot and plenty of airport hotels nearby the stadium.

I don't think that's what people are saying. I'd pay a premium to support the University... but they're usually twice the cost of doing it yourself.

Then again they may do fine with those packages and the price is aimed correctly... we might not be the target audience.

My position is Uconn's packages are overpriced and don't include what other schools include in their travel packages. UConn fans are paying more and getting less.

My other post was a response to someone who thinks it's possible for the University to do this cheaper than an individual.

The official trips can be a lot of fun if done right.

Why exactly would you need a police escort?

I did that for the Maryland game which was on the ACC network, in Boynton Beach Fl. At least they won.
