What a defensive clinic! Unbelievable! It is difficult to believe that a roster this good, has been joined by a player as good as Blanca! I would not trade her for any other freshman. Her potential is really unlimited. Next year I believe she will be among the best players in the country. By the way, does it seem to anyone else the she is substantially taller than her listed 6’2”? I think she is at least 6’3”.
Hope Sarah feels better, Ash played great today and I thought Serah took a step forward as well.

UConn has had some great defensive teams in the past, but I doubt there has been a player like Blanca that Geno could bring off the bench with her athletic skills and immediately impact the game. She will be an absolute terror on both ends of the court come tourney time.

Most times when Azzi is mentioned after a game, it usually has to do with her impeccable shooting. However, her defensive job on Jazzy Davidson was splendid. Azzi was so close to Jazzy, she heard her thoughts.

At this stage, UConn's team defense is ahead of its offense. Let that sink in. When the offense catches up, UConn will be a team with few weaknesses.
LOL “Azzi was so close to Jazzy, she heard her thoughts.”

Let's face it, Sarah had an off night and seemed out of sorts in the first half and K9 appeared to be off her game also likely due to the pressure of returning back. Plus we traveled 3000 miles for this game. despite this we were up by 40 or close to it at one point. This is one of our best defensive teams ever. Thing of beauty.

I think the lead reached 39 a couple of times.

My unhappiness with the officiating was the lack of consistency. Seemed that in the first quarter they let players on both sides bang away but as the game progressed they started calling really light touches.

I think, and am glad, that Jana showed improvement in getting off her shots when in close range.

After the first few minutes, I mentioned to Mrs. Gigio that Sarah did not look right. She said "she looks pale" (Mrs. Gigio is very good at TV diagnosis'). Sarah was definitely not running on all cylinders, but kept clawing away and doing her best. A solid team backside beating on the opponents home court. Defense was outrageous, and Azzi shut Davidson down. Blanca is really special, Ash has her sniper scope working along with Azzi, and KK runs the show on high speed.
Update, in the presser Geno said Sarah was dealing with a stomach issue! Mrs. Gigio, correct again, as usual!

Loved the way most of this game went. KK is playing sensational even if she isn't a scoring machine. Azzi has become a great 2 way player. Sarah solid game even under the weather; cant imagine her at full strength and we don't sub as often in second half, this would've been a 40pt blow out. I thought Serah Williams played well today and has made great strides. Blanca is so talented. A few out of control drives to the basket, but she is so impactful. Shade frustrates me at time and then hits a few 3s to temper my frustration just enough. Jana was solid today, but defensively gives up too many layups. Heckel played well at times, but for the most part didn't have a good game. Great road win today.

Just got around to watching the game replay. WOW! At the risk of dislocating my shoulder from patting myself on the back, I will remind anyone who’s interested of my “Top 3 things” on BBallF’s pregame thread.
  1. Convincing road win over a ranked team……CHECK
  2. Long day for Jazzy Davidson from UConn’s swarming D……CHECK
  3. Blanca, the other freshman, having a BIG day ……CHECK

Just more Blanca adulation: she is really good now in short bursts. By February she’ll be great for entire games. By March, it will feel like there’s two Sarahs on the floor. I didn’t expect to see her progress this quickly. What an amazing young woman. Go Blanca!!!

I just finished watching the game and I need to read the posts but I'm confident the comments have well covered the goings on so I'll just add my impressions.

Going into the game I was curious how we would respond playing against a pretty good team. Pretty dang well I'd say. Real well.

That was the best defensive game I've seen any UConn team play. USC just never had any breathing room. For the whole game. Just awesome.

This is a TEAM. They played at a level you want to see in February. They absolutely schooled USC.
Like piranha on a roast. Who said that? I think it was a BE coach.

We are scary! That defensive job the team displayed today, was a thing of beauty!! What makes it even more scary, we are only 9nor 10 games into the season. Just think what the defense is going to look like as the season progresses and the players keep improving their rotations. Teams better watch out!

Great game and Let's Go, UConn!!

Sarah seemed to be sliding around a lot. Maybe trade those Kobi's in for some Stephen Curry shoes.

I am just glad that this game is over. Yes, there were many good things, some bad things, and some odd things going on.
I am looking forward to the rest of the season!

Well, that was kinda an anticlimax.
On the one hand, it was fun to see UConn's defense stifle USC. On the other, it just didn't seem like USC had any real weapons, at least in the first half. Blanca was amazing. Sarah had (by her standards) a not-so-good game. It was nice to see Ashlynn get her shot back. We knew it'd come, but having her as a weapon does make a difference. I'm sure Jazzy is going to be good at some point, but I was really not impressed with her. There was a lot of pre-game talk about her being the next incarnation of Juju, and it just didn't seem to be true, Will she be good? Sure. Will she be extraordinary? Not so sure.

I’ve now watched the game twice — Hulu let’s me record it — and I think this is one of those teams that could be compared to any of the great husky teams of yore. I’m not saying it’s better or worse than any particular team. But they should definitely be in the conversation. It’s a lot of things that make me say this, not least of which is that the scoring comes from everywhere. It’s not just Azzi and Sarah, great as they are. And the intensity of the defensive effort is really eye opening.
