OT: USA WINS HOCKEY GOLD

46 years. Hockey is the only sport that I could not even fake playing. I can throw a baseball, football, shoot hoops and swing a golf club and tennis racket but…..I can’t skate or even fake it in hockey. I guess I could lie down in front of the goal…
Same…tried ice skating on a pond once when I was young, fell backwards, cracked my head and never went back. Was pretty good at floor hockey in gym class but skating is/was an no go. I also supremely dislike cold weather and being cold….and now both of my kids play travel ice hockey. God doth have a sense of humor…

They did what I advised. Follow the 1980 blueprint. Load up on Boston U. grads, and so they did: Eichel, Oettinger, B Tkachuk, Keller, McAvoy. Also, head coach: Sullivan.

Nice to see USA beat a country at a thing that is their staple. Canada= hockey, geese and maple syrup.
Having played a ton of golf in lower Fairfield County, I would dispute that geese is a Canadian thing.

Next to 1980 one of the best hockey games I've ever watched. Replay the goal by Boldy - wow! The Brothers were all great. Hellenbuyk MVP and UConn's own Tage with gold!

Jack Hughes didn’t go to BU. He never played college hockey.
Jack and Quinn from US Development League. Quinn did go to Michigan. Keller, Eichel, McAvoy, Brady Tkachuk and Celebrini were all Terriers though

Connor Hellebuyck absolutely stood on his head. But, Canada missed some insane sitters. Mackinnon is an incredible player but how he missed that open net I will never know, almost seemed like divine intervention.

Oettinger too. And Mike Sullivan (lived a few doors down from me in the freshman dorms).

Watched OT in the parking garage at Terminal C - Newark. Amazing!! I’m not even a hockey guy.

For the tv viewer the 3 on 3 is exciting because you can see much easier, less clutter on the screen.
Certainly favors the more skilled players and the best skaters.

Reminds me when I used to bring youth soccer players to 3v3 tournaments and coach them. The kids who were sometimes swallowed up on the field would suddenly showcase their skills, outrageous passing, creativity, and especially fancy dribbling. Same kids would go back to 11v11 and get bullied or else rarely find outlets for their ability to hold the ball and control play.

Want some kleenex with that?
Don't need, thanks. Haven't thought about it since this morning except to respond to posts here.

However, the declining ability of US residents to competently do math is an ongoing concern.

Terrific game. Canada was the better team, played better but sometimes you lose those. I've watched the Bruins lose in the finals while dominating the game. Goaltending was stellar for USA.
Also, if we feel any conference pride here, Hockey East provided much of the team: BU - 5 players, BC - 2 players, UConn - 1, Maine - 1, UMass Lowell 1 (the most important, Hellebuyck).

They're Canadian. I've been saying for decades that we should send Canada a bill for the damage their damned geese cause every year.

I'm going to the Avs game on Thur - first home game after Olympics. Will be fun to see Nelson getting a heroes welcome, and then see the polite welcome for MacKinnon, Cale and toews along with lehki and kivi grabbing bronze.

The Canadian crew got a huge ovation after 4 nations so I'm sure everyone will get the same here...but we'll all yell just a little louder for brock...

It's a bit weird you're telling people how to react after an amazing Olympic victory for the US.

Sorry don’t know how to link the video up to my this UConn family. Please go see Jack Hughes post game interview. If you watched the game & then saw what he had to say a few minutes after the game about being an American & the overall teamwork- it gave me chills & put a smile on my face & as he said- made me proud.

Easily the two signature images of the Olympics. Golds in what I would consider two of the most primetime events.

Alyssa Liu not giving and having fun, completely being herself was great. It'll be interesting to see if the hairstyle takes off.

The Jack Hughes photo is the epitome of what it takes to make something of yourself in the land of the free: grit, toughness, and skill. I mean the man took a stick to the grill. It was a refreshing interview afterwards, exuded pride for the country.

On that play, Hughes not only had to slow the freight train that was a McDavid rush but then make a very ballsy poke that earned the puck. Then he had the wherewithall to have the right spacing to bury the shot.
