USA Today story on Crystal Dangerfield...

“It’s just been really crazy,” Dangerfield said. “I’m trying to just let it all sink in, then try and slow it down.

“After the new year, it’s five more months, then I’m up in Connecticut.”

I really like this girl ~~~~

Crystal is coming in with a lot of fanfare and accolades as Moriah's heir apparent. Mo has raised the bar at the point guard position at UConn. I think the plan is for her to take Mo's place. It's going to be a completely different team next year with Mo and Stewie gone. Hopefully she can make that high school to college adjustment sometime during her freshman year.

I'm assuming Chong will take Mo's place in the starting lineup, and KLS will replace Stewie. Dangerfield could be the 1st of 2nd guard off the bench depending on the maturity of upper class guards on the bench in front of her.

Not asking too much, just become as good as MoJeff, oh and quickly.:)

Actually, I was thinking the same thing, but I didn't want to put that kind of pressure on her coming in the door. The expectations for her will be almost as high as the ones we had for Stewart when she got here.

Right, wrong or other wise, she will constantly be compared to Jefferson for the first two seasons (or until Mo begins to fade from our conciseness). I'll bet at least half of the preseason articles written about her make some sort of reference to Mo. Jefferson is going to be a hard act to follow!! How do you replace the best guard in the country?
Remember, Mo did win the Nancy Lieberman award.

Frankly, I don't think we will ever see the likes of a Moriah Jefferson again. However, the discernable similarities between Moriah and Crystal are enough to make me hopeful that UConn will once again be in magnificently capable hands.

Moriah was the top rated point guard in her class, won the gold in the 2012 FIBA U18 Worlds, and (with some kids named Stewart and Tuck) won the 2013 U19 FIBA World Championship gold medal (both times the youngest member). Moriah was considered troublingly short and frail, though tough and fast as hell. A fearless competitor with a relentless motor and. As a senior Hoopgurlz said, " A great athlete with the ability to get anywhere on the floor that she wants, Jefferson is even more explosive in transition where she has the ability to finish through contact or make an impressive highlight pass."

Crystal is the top rated point guard in her class, she won the 2013 gold medal in the FIBA U16 World Championships, and she won the gold medal at the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships. She was pretty much the youngest on both championship teams. Crystal is fast and strong as hell for her size, but is considered very short by her naysayers.
Considered by Hoopgurlz as "The impact lead-guard in the 2016 class; explosiveness under control, playmaker, mid-range game producer; the complete package with a dose of swagger."

Nobody will ever replace the singularly spectacular Moriah Jefferson, but I believe that in Crystal Dangerfield we will see a worthy successor.

In Jim Fuller's column today, he cites 2 links, one about Kyla Irwin and one about Crystal Dangerfield: both terrific. Irwin sounds particularly exciting; she may be one of Geno's gems.
The competition in HS for her is not great, but I really like everything I have seen or heard about Irwin. She reminds me of a mini Dolson - good hands and good footwork plus determination in perhaps not the most athletically gifted frame. If she can develop along the lines of what Dolson was able to, she can be a great addition.

Let's hope she shares Mo's dedication to building her game. Just amazing the way she now excels in all facets of the game.
