Well.... I guess i'm one of those road geeks.... a new section of the Greensboro Urban Loop opened this past Thursday... and I figured since its the off-season.... as part of the festivities I would change my avatar to celebrate the newest highway section in the Interstate System.

The 3 digit 40 signs have always been my favorites like 240 in Memphis and Asheville.... 440 in Raleigh... 640 in Knoxville..but 840 is definitely my favorite looking in the whole system.

That will only last for a few days, Interstate 11 will have a 5.4 mile section around Boulder City, NV open very soon.

Will be interesting to see if USA basketball ever settles on a successor to Bird. Clarendon, Diggins, Mitchell could all be that player.

Odd first digits are spurs..... even first digits are loops or bypasses.... there is one exception here in NC. When they first started the second outer loop around Raleigh... (the Raleigh Beltline is 440)... it was designated 540 .... and when they finished.... they were gonna change it to 640. Due to funding issues... construction has taken alot longer than expected... the NCDOT petitioned that they keep the 540 designation and the Feds agreed. I assume the Greensboro loop would have been named 640 instead of 840 if it were on the drawing board earlier.

So here in Connecticut:
Bypasses/ Loops:
291 - connecting 91 Windsor to 84 Manchester
691 - connecting 91 Meriden to 84 just east of Waterbury
684 - connecting 84 near Danbury to 287 near the Tappan Zee (anybody been across the new Bridge?)

Spurs:
384 - branches off 84 in Manchester to US 6/44 split
395 - off 95 near Niantic north into Mass and changing to I290 at the junction with I90 in Worcester. Doesn't sound like a spur to me.

The National team begins its 3-day camp today in Seattle. There are many UConn girls in attendance, including 1 of our current stars, Pheesa.

They play China on Thursday. There are 19 girls at camp. They will need to get down to 12 by Thursday. Will be intersting to see who they keep. Here are the current players.
