Eventually conferences will follow this corporate trend. It may be too late for us but I feel it is inevitable.

When CR was going in earnest and the conferences were letting go of traditional rivalries for more $$$, I said that in 20-30 years the conferences would look back and say, "What the hell were they thinking?" And the widespread conferences would go back to being more regional, as they should be.
