My further review (of Badass Awards) was prompted by comments by a few wise Boneyaders who persuaded me to reconsider past awards. So I did -- by (1) watching recent games again, and (2) realizing that making only one Badass Award per game did a disservice to players who had disrupted opponents by their aggressive and effective play.

About 15 years ago, we had a 'Yarder who awarded "game balls" -- one per victory IIRC -- complete with nifty graphics to honor outstanding play by one standout player at a time. One reason it worked well was because it was in he heyday of the TASS Force, several great players but none so consistently dominant as Stewie is currently.

As I re-viewed some tough games, it became obvious that Moriah (by shutting Marina down in 2nd half) and Morgan ("best player on the court," according to Muffet) deserve Badass recognition for the ND game, in addition to Stewie. Ditto for the more recent FSU game.

With this belated but deserving recognition of MO and Morgan, here's the # of Badass awards after 8 games (and about 30 to go):
Stewie - 5
Moriah - 3
Morgan - 2
Gabby - 2
TLaw - 1 (a special award)

Obviously, some players are on the cusp and it's only a matter of time for them to join this elite category -- a real UConn Badass!:)

Kib,
I yield to your evaluation of badassness... I would like, however, to nominate Napheesa Collier for Honorable Mention. Did those watching the game see the shiner under her right eye? I tried to capture it on this picture, but it is hard to fully appreciate. Here's her stats from the game:

1. Started and played 32 minutes
2. Led the team with 7 rebounds
3. Two assists, two blocks and only two turnovers.
4. Four steals and six points
5. No personal fouls (0)
6. One nice black eye

Great game for a badass in training. Unexpected start, lots of minutes and more than held her own.
Go Napheesa..!!

To add onto David's comment about Napheesa... I seriously love the way Collier and Samuelson have been playing. I think UCONN fans have quickly realized that Lou is no KML, but she brings far more to the court as a freshman than KML did, and while both have a lot of work to do, it's clear that both bring a LOT to the table, have tons of potential, and are going to thrill us for 3.5 more years!

Eric - nice post, I just made a slight edit, you used the word 'no', but it really is that we are realizing Lou is 'not' KML, she is however Lou, a very good and unique player.

Yoou are not alone in making a strong case for Pheese, BUT. . .
I don't want to get into any "honorable mention" category; and,
I think three Badass awards in a game with MOV of 24 points is sufficient.

Pheese is clearly right "on the cusp" with about 30 games remaining this season and 3 more beyond so she will surely "join the club" early and often. (Ditto for a few teammates.) :)

And BTW, I am reluctant to honor more than one Badass in a 50-60 pt. MOV blowout or even one if the unthinkable occurs. :( (Sorry, Tony.)

After eight games, it is obvious that Geno is still making adjustments and so am I. I'll bet that I'm closer to any solution(s) than he is so please get off my ass.:D

I have a selectee for a new category: "Giver of Badass Awards." The clear winner is Kibitzer. The Tennessee team said he won "hands down." ;)

I gather that's a reference to his days giving hand signals to recruits?

When we had Stef, Stewie, Morgan, Kaleena, and Kiah, one of the Tenn players (Burdick or Graves, I believe), said publicly that she thought that Tenn had the best front court in the nation, "hands down." It was laughable.

May I suggest that another category be added to your BA listings:
Freshman BA
The Florida game Collier would have won that one.
Then back a game or two it could have been Katie Lou.

However there is little to argue with the selections you have made so far---so since I can't nit pick --I'll leave.

Was that the GOOD A-- or the BAD A--- of yours on which he was??

Come April 1 (there about) Geno will have most of his adjustments by then (I hope)~!!!

We obviously are on the same Collier Wave Length since she began playing here. Katie Lou since she started playing at UConn
I made a case for FRESHMEN BAD-A___ award(s).

Using the American vernacular, with us for many many years, it has been common to say ---she is NO KML!! Aggravated usage has modified OUR language with many words and with changing syntax.
We shall strive for PERFECTION --but it shall never be attained. Let Kib do the Bob Steel thing selectively doing the word or corrections of the day.
