Rank Team Points
1 Uconn 220
2 Stanford 190
3 Baylor 180
4 Notre Dame 155
5 A&M 125
6 Tennessee 115
7 Duke 105
8 Kentucky 60
9 OU 45
10 Xavier 45
11 Maryland 40
12 Nebraska 35
13 Florida State 35
14 Ohio State 30
15 Gonzaga 25

Notes:

  • UConn must get a #1 seed and get to the championship round to be guaranteed to stay ahead of Baylor next year.
  • Stanford and UConn have been models of consistency. Can Stanford keep it up? UConn appears to be set to do so.
  • With A&M joining the SEC, the league has three programs currently in the top 10. Can they all stay there? Who will emerge?
  • Tennessee finished the 1980s as the clear #2, the 1990s as the clear #1, and the 2000s as the clear #2. So although #6 is pretty darn respectable, especially when you consider the accomplishments of the five teams in front of them, that still represents a titanic shift in WCBB.
  • Teams likely movin' on up: Duke, Maryland
  • Teams likely falling out of the top 15 soon: Florida State, Xavier, Ohio State, Nebraska. Penn State: opportunity is knocking in the B1G.
  • Jeff Walz is a hot name, but in the first part of this decade, Louisville is barely registering a blip in my rankings. Mitchell is killing him so far. Eventually, doesn't Louisville have to produce without Angel? Yeah, I know injuries have had an impact.
  • Would you rather be ND, Stanford, or A&M? As a fan, probably A&M, but you have to reward consistency too.

The next two years will be interesting - Stanford has a major player loss this year as does ND and TN, and next year Baylor's team gets a real whack - BG plus 4.

Somehow I missed some key info. Exactly when did this decade in question start?

umm.......... since 2002 (10 years= decade) uconn has had 3 undefeated seasons and 5 national championships.. how are they only 30 points ahead of Stanford and 40 points ahead of baylor? .. IMO Baylor can win the national title next year and they wont be the team of the decade!!

bingo. UCONN is light years ahead of every other program out there in the past decade. and actually, it's not even close. any list that needs UCONN to be a 1 seed and make the NC game is insane.
