"The betting and sports bar may open as soon as Sept. 2 and will welcome all patrons whether or not they are attending an event at the XL. Open seven days a week, the hours are still being determined, but are likely to be 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. or 11 p.m......... Event ticketholders will be able to move between the arena and the betting venue by presenting their ticket ".... The sportsbook and bar will be tricked out with a 250-foot long, scrolling ticker with constant updates of sports scores and news. There will be over 80 video monitors — including some in booths along a new glass wall facing Ann Uccello Street — tuned to a broad spectrum of sporting events"

Gotta love the CT Lottery... come and gamble away, just don't loose your shirt you degenerates, LOL!

I dont really get the appeal of a "sports book" venue when you can just easily do it on your phone?

It is less about the gambling aspects and more about the social aspects of cheering on your bets in a room full of fellow bettors.

On FanDuel you are able to bet through the app while at Mohegan Sun now, so if you want that type of experience without having to shell out extra cash that you might already have loaded on your app, you get the best of both worlds.

I'm just a little confused on this. I thought all gambling had to go through the tribes?

Sports books now open at the casinos and soon in Hartford. Cannabis shops open all over the place. Many businesses were shuttered or restricted during the height of coronavirus. But not liquor stores. I guess it would be too much to ask for high paying manufacturing jobs to come back and for productive useful things to be made here again, eh? Politicians care about you. But not in the way many think. They want you broke, addicted, and in a stupor. My how we have fallen. Smh
If people want to get their hands on sports betting and Cannabis, they will and have been doing so for decades on the black market. Time to get outside and get some fresh air. State might as well get some tax revenue from it rather than others who have been...

The 1960s called and want their church-going goodie two-shoes housewife back. Make sure the microwave dinner will be ready for tonight's Brady Bunch episode!

Because the state has done so incredibly well with the revenue they’ve already gotten lol

The framework of the agreement stated each tribe was able to operate their own books and the state would also be able to operate their own as part of the CT Lottery.

All of the brick & mortar locations that are operated by the state are west of the CT River per the agreement with the tribes.

Got it, thank you!

Sure but it's crazy everyone can do this now legally where I live but I can't legally buy vape juice where I live. Something that's saved millions of smokers. There's zero consistency.

It does. The Sportsbook exception was the result of a lot of give and take before they cut a deal.

Why the hell is this state-financed? I know the answer but it is complete BS- no private money willing to invest in business in XL that generates profits
Well the state and the tribes have always had a monopoly on "organized crime" since the 90's. So why would they want to let in an outside investor on this new sportsbook deal and share part of those profits. I know when I owned a 600 person music venue in Hartford I would have loved to install just slots and would've been happy to kick back some to the state, to help fund my venue and talent buy. But if I did I go to jail, even though it's already been established gambling isn't morally wrong.

So keep out the competition. People always talk about concerts, events etc., but one of side things the state did for the tribes is give them a revenue source that private / other venues can't compete with. So they can book talent for 3 times + what another promoter can pay because they can comp the event away / figure it in to their break even ( gambling profits). So it closed down alot of CT venues. I remember seeing a Reggae band at Toad's Place on Friday for $30. The next night the same band was a free event at the Mohegan. Hooray for the tribes at the same time as screwing over private money on shows at other venues, including even the XL Center/ promoters.

I would love to see a sold out XL where everyone could bet the game. Would get loud. Hopefully at some point we will be able to bet UConn legally from in-state. I’d also love a few poker tables in there too.

Given what’s transpiring in Iowa, I don’t think we will ever be getting CT college teams on the legal outfits.

You mean the $750m surplus from last fiscal year isn't good enough?
Wasnt the majority of the surplus the result of federal relief from covid? CT is definitely not financially stable….
