2026 Recruiting: Update on Qayden Samuels - Visiting This Weekend

i don't think it's as much about being out of state as it is $$.

This is a weird year with NIL - lot's of pause from programs that need to find ways to distribute the load, so if one program decides to go all in on one player, they may just get them.
If UConn offered him equal money as Arkansas….he’d be a razor back.

I think that's the case.

She had already decided to transfer yet she was there with Azzi and others at NYC draft for Paige. Guessing she made friends for life and liked it here just didn’t work out basketball wise.
In that same thread as HuskyNan's comment another fan of the women's team said she wasn't that highly ranked as a recruit but Geno decided to take her to fill out the class. She was never expected to play much. She got some run in 2023-2024 because of all the injuries. I can't comment on any of that because I don't follow the women's team much.

Landrew was a football player, right? Likely more PF than SF and would be a beast in the weight room.

Just because someone played football doesn't mean you make them a PF. Bizarre comment. Have you watched him play at all?

Why in the world would we waste even a smidge of time on the kid if this were true?
We’ve been recruiting him for awhile. I’m sure when we first started he was appreciative and excited to have attention from the hometown school.

But as things start to pick up and it goes from offers to what he wants he could not want to come here when it comes to it.

Like Ant said a lot of CT kids simply just want to leave the state. Except for our 7’ loveable giants (DC and AD).

That in no way answered Huskyforlife's question.

The first part did. They’d spend time on him for the same reason they did Betsey.
No it doesn't. If Toure was never coming here no matter what like Ant is saying why would the staff show up to his high school games, AAU games, invite him up to campus several times, his coach talking about setting up an official visit most likely in September, going to his high school gym earlier this month to meet with him and watch him work out?

You answered why Toure would've been appreciative and excited early on.
Not why UConn would waste time on him if what Ant is saying is true?

Same reason coaches will pursue a kid committed elsewhere… same reason we may pursue a girl who rejected us at first.

What do you mean lol. These things happen all the time. Especially if the kid is open to being recruited.

At least that's an answer to the question.

First to commit between Toure/Landrew/Samuels gets the spot, and the others are a “call us if you want to transfer here if it doesn’t work out somewhere else” situation?

But we have so many options in Toures range that would very heavily consider committing to us. We don’t need him, so continuing to pursue despite his lack of interest still doesn’t make sense.

I’m not sure if Toure or any recruit in that situation outright tells a staff that. They can let their circles know things that doesn’t go back to a staff.

There’s just so many reasons a recruit may not want a school but would still be recruited by said school. We just saw it with Betsey last year who picked Cincinnati of all schools.

People on here are delusional if you think the staff ever prioritized Toure. It only takes 5 mins if you see Toure live that he doesn’t fit the Hurley profile. It’s called PR. Toure is good and is in state. He deserves a certain amount of respect. That’s all this is. Neither side ever thought UConn was a fit. Move on.

Dyson was a running back as well as Terrence Samuels. It was fun to watch him go to the rim looking for contact. One of the most physical 2 guards to play here at UConn and one of my favorite players all time.

I think Dyson had low D1 football offers
Dyson had all the athleticism and toughness in the world to play football.

If he put in the work he should’ve to go with his talent he would’ve been out of here as a player.

It's delusional to think only one type of player fits into this program.

Dude Hurley and Kimani just went to his gym two weeks ago. What do you think they were doing there?

Or the Toure camp named their price and the staff didn’t think he’s worth it (fact). His target price tag could come down and things change. It would also benefit Toure to have the instate powerhouse interested as leverage, doesn’t help if they’re not.

Someone is simply going to pay more.

He's clearly never seen Toure play live. I've been to ten of his games. Yeah, a freak athlete who's also a team player who loves seeing his teammates shine could never fit Hurley's system. 🤣
