So February has arrived, this Uconn team is 4-4 through the cupcake portion of their conference schedule and really without any type of signature win at all, although I know the RPI somehow has shuck out well thanks to not having any dreadful drag downs on the schedule. The team has lost 3 in a row, 5 out of 7 and have to face this - it's very realistic based on how this team is playing and that fact they just don't improve that they go less that .500 in conference. Is it time to start worrying whether this team actually makes the tournament?

Nope. Not at all. They are still safely in.

Really?

This team just had two bad games in a row and 8 days of practice to work out the kinks and then they get great news with the Boat allowed to play and they throw up this stinker at Home.

Looking at their schedule I don't see any gimmes. and now Ville, Nova and Pitt have started playing well again and we have to go to Providence where we haven't exactly played well lately. I had counted today as a W and now I have to rethink the rest of the schedule. Please show me where 5 more wins are coming from

I meant right now they're in.

Anyone who questions that has not tried putting together a field without them. I have. UMass is in it.

It's bad.

The point of this is to discuss whether they're in AFTER February/March regular season. Without any kind of strong win(I'm sorry, an Ivy League school at Gampel is not that) or what was a struggling FSU team in O/T on a neutral floor is not a big win. ND at home is a much easier matchup than what we're going to see. Does this team get into the Tourney with a sub .500 record in conference?

Agreed Wise guy........having been watching the tuen of events I can't see it. Nova's playing much better and again is a bad match up as is most everyone who plays smaller and has a PG who can defend!!!!

Even with a mild improvement in play 5 loses over that stretch could very reasonably occur. That would leave the Huskies at 19-11 with a relatively weak out if conference schedule= bubblicious

The original post is eerily similar to those made mid season last year. I continue to presume that JC will figure this out, which I believed during the skid last season as well. I feel strongly that this group will spring to life and get off the bubble. I may be wrong and they will continue to flounder, but I just don't see this team going .500 the rest of the way. I think they turn it around like in 2011 or they crash and burn like in 2010. Limping along doesn't usually happen to teams this talented. That
is usually the way a hardworking, scrappy team with limited talent works out. This team just needs things to click. We have the horses.

Stark differences in last years team/resume - that team went out and won the Maui. That team went out and beat a very good Texas team on the road. They went undefeated in what was one of the best ooc schedules in the country. That team did not lose to a Central Florida type team on a neutral floor- they had no horrible losses. They went 9-9 in one of the best versions of the Big East we've seen - the conference is much different this year. That team showed what they were capable of despite some downs. I'm not sure this team has shown anything close to that.

I think it's time to start wondering if this is a potential bubble team.

I said in another thread this team will probably need to win at least 6 or 7 of the remaining ten games. If not Uconn will be in that position where they need to do some damage in the BET to lock up an NCAA bid. One way to look at it, February is loaded with top teams so there are more chances to get quality wins to better the tournament resume.
