Can someone add some detail? I understand that Yanna was cleared for full contact, reinjured the same shoulder, and likely will need surgery. Do we know the nature of the injury? Are there some shoulder injuries that do not require sitting out 3-4 months?

Does anyone recall the DePaul player, perhaps a Quigley, who was in college for about 7 years?

You are ready for the insufferable HIPAA lecture @MilfordHusky I hope. There is info we can be told without running afoul of HIPPA a point lost on quite a few. But to your question the shoulder is complex and nerve dense so recovery can be fairly prolonged. When her initial injury dragged on and on I grew fairly pessimistic. I didn't hear she was cleared until I heard she was injured again; of course all of that information was reported by an outside source.

Someone with a better memory than mine needs to add to this. Tina Charles had shoulder problems coming into UConn. Didn't she have surgery real early in her career (this is where the memory gets fuzzy)? In any event Tina did come back for a pretty good UConn career. I hope Yana can do the same.

I'm not sure what the status of Tina's shoulder was her first year, but I think her shoulder was injured/re-injured when Syl blocked her shot in the NCAA tourney game. Tina had surgery in the off-season, and I think she was 100% in about 6 months.

There is a former DePaul player named ALLIE Quigley but she was at DePaul for the standard 4 years. Perhaps you are thinking of ALI Patberg who entered Notre Dame in 2015 but an injury and subsequent surgeries sidelined her for her freshman year. She played for Notre Dame during the 2016-17 season. Ali then decided to transfer to Indiana which according to NCAA rules at the time required her to sit out a year. She played 4 seasons for Indiana gaining an extra year because of the COVID year. Add it all up and she spent 7 years in college. I’m pretty sure UConn tried to recruit her out of high school. Her longevity at Indiana paid dividends as she is currently a member of their coaching staff.

Patberg is still with Indiana as an assistant coach. I always liked her, even when she was playing for the enemy.

She was also one of my favorite non-UConn players. A good player who stayed in state.

I recently heard coach comment that surgery may be coming up for her.

I'm not thinking of Patberg. It was a DePaul player, perhaps with an Irish name who played with her sister in college. Like Patberg, she was in college for well more than 4 years.

Katlyn Gilbert? Like Yana, she sustained a shoulder injury.
