IIn life there seems that an individual just can't catch a break. Yana seems to be that individual. I really feel sorry for that she hasn't had the opportunity to play and show her stuff. Really sad. Wishing her well in her future and hope she will still get a chance to play in the future. GO AYANNAH!!!!!
 
Not the news anyone wanted to hear. But clearly, with the length of time Yanna was out after supposedly “banging her shoulder,” and then reinjuring it just when she appeared ready to ramp up her activities again, there was something more serious going on with Yama’s shoulder.

Get it fixed. Rehab. Come back next season better than ever!

I feel just horrible for her. But it's odd to me that a kid who is so athletic and strong could be so fragile. Reinjures her same shoulder literally immediately after getting cleared for full contact again? What gives? She's got to be devastated.

All I can do is wish her the best and hope for a healthy recovery for her for her life - not sure she will ever play basketball again - so hoping for a fully healthy physical recovery so she can live her life pain free and healthy!

Years ago, my husband and sons were playing pick up in the driveway and the youngest bumped into my husband. The result was a complete rotator cuff tear. I’m not suggesting that this is what happened to Ayanna, but just pointing out that the littlest thing can lead to big injuries.

I am sure that is devastating for her. She has a good group around her to help her cope with it, however.
 
Wow, she won’t have played basketball in 2 years. The positive is that her injuries occurred after she was recruited for college, so at least she is getting a free college education.
 
So sorry for Ayanna. Another year just sitting on the bench has got to be so frustrating for her.

What lousy news. I am always struck by how positive Yanna looks, supporting her teammates from the sidelines, regardless of her own challenges. I wish nothing but better luck ahead for this young woman.
 
Can someone add some detail? I understand that Yanna was cleared for full contact, reinjured the same shoulder, and likely will need surgery. Do we know the nature of the injury? Are there some shoulder injuries that do not require sitting out 3-4 months?

Does anyone recall the DePaul player, perhaps a Quigley, who was in college for about 7 years?

You are ready for the insufferable HIPAA lecture @MilfordHusky I hope. There is info we can be told without running afoul of HIPPA a point lost on quite a few. But to your question the shoulder is complex and nerve dense so recovery can be fairly prolonged. When her initial injury dragged on and on I grew fairly pessimistic. I didn't hear she was cleared until I heard she was injured again; of course all of that information was reported by an outside source.

Someone with a better memory than mine needs to add to this. Tina Charles had shoulder problems coming into UConn. Didn't she have surgery real early in her career (this is where the memory gets fuzzy)? In any event Tina did come back for a pretty good UConn career. I hope Yana can do the same.

I'm not sure what the status of Tina's shoulder was her first year, but I think her shoulder was injured/re-injured when Syl blocked her shot in the NCAA tourney game. Tina had surgery in the off-season, and I think she was 100% in about 6 months.
