I will preface this post by letting you know I am a Syracuse homer. Born, raised and schooled at SU's college of Forestry. I bleed orange hoops, particularly the men's team. The women's team, sadly, as we all know, have never been competitive until the last couple years. So, its with great pride that I can watch them compete now for a title.
What has made me, and a large number of Central NY basketball fans even prouder, is the career of our native Stewie. We never criticized her decision to enroll at UConn. We all knew she was too great to stay at home. Her decision was not a surprise, never begrudged, and instead was largely applauded. We were thrilled that our very own Stewie would be playing for the best program, on the biggest stage. She had worked hard and deserved the opportunity. The people of Syracuse were thrilled that she would be representing us at powerhouse UConn. It was like winning a golden ticket. This was our hometown young lady, about to launch what we all knew , would be a historical career. It could only be at UConn.
I have watched every game of Stewie's college career. I have also seen almost every SU game over the same stretch. UConn is by far the better team with the most talent. Syracuse is peaking at the right time and very confident.
Now, for tonight's game. SU's full court pressure defense will not disrupt UConn. I foresee many easy layups when they break the press. SU's interior defense is also weak. I expect Tuck and Gabby/Collier to have big numbers. SU will launch threes, they'll make some, but they'll need to make 20 to keep it close. I predict with 99.9% certainty that UConn will win. But I only hope SU can keep it competitive. And so yes, the streak of double digit margin of victory will go down tonight. UConn 86- SU 77

Welcome to the Boneyard :)

Unfortunately for the Orange... the streak will not end... we may see another 2013 result, ala Louisville... I smell a 30 points drubbing...

It's rare - very rare - that a team scores 70 on UConn. I'm not perturbed by the 9-pt margin, but, I'd love to take the "under" on the Syr. score prediction.

Congrats on reaching this moment. And your analysis of how the game is likely to play out sounds logical. So why predict a margin of just 9 points ?
Just being a hopeful homer

Oh geez I hope not, isn't it more entertaining to watch a competitive game? and wouldn't it be more gratifying to a player to win a well fought battle, rather than having the opponent come up lame? You strike me as a bit arrogant.
UConn giving 24 by the bookies. Give the points, bet the house, then you can really be grateful to Stewie.

Stewie has done enough already, you should feel the same

It's not the point differential that I get excited about... it's how Uconn executes... the ebb and flow of the game... it's poetry in motion... If they play like they did against Miss State... I'm afraid it'll be a blow out...

I wouldn't strike you... I wouldn't strike anyone... Violence is never the answer... I'm sorry if you feel as if i'm arrogant... I'm really not... I just call them as I see them... the way Uconn has a way of dismantling the other team is proof enough...

Losing the double digit streak doesn't bother me at all.
Although I'm predicting a 15-20 point victory.
Go Huskies!!!

Syracuse scares me. They are so unorthodox: 3pt-crazy, constant pressure, high aggression, and 9-player rotation. Still, they haven't seen anything like UConn's transition and half-court offense and paralyzing defense.. UConn by 20.

YO Duke - You seem like a nice, kind, and gentle person that likes basketball. I was very disappointed that you marginalized someone by labeling and calling them "arrogant." Also, where did someone say Cuse would come up lame. I am sad that you project your viewpoint and not appreciate anothers view. Empathy is such a valuable feeling. Trying to understand others experience gives me insight. Have you ever played in a Championship game? Coached a Championship? Just wondering how you felt during that experience? To share--I have. A 30 point drubbing was just as gratifying to me as the 1-0 win. We are all different you know.
I am perplexed and concerned that you are new to this neighborhood and you are telling people that "you should feel the same."
I will not judge --as you have done here. I am just heavyhearted about your responses.
Here is a tip to protect you in the future - - If you are ever on a playground in Philly, please keep those types of comments to yourself because you might need an escort to get home. Peace to you Friend!

Great post!
Stewart has most assuredly given the Syracuse community great reason to be proud and should continue to do so throughout her pro career and in whatever else she chooses to do. A great young lady humble and supremely talented.
And yes - Syracuse U. has finally broken through on the WCBB front and is playing brilliantly. Now, hopefully they have done enough to finally get some fans to attend and cheer their team. It would be nice to see something better than a smattering of seats filled for their home games - they deserve it.

Nice post, but a technicality. If the college you attended is the one I think it is, that's a SUNY school not an SU school, even though the SUNY school is next to the Dome. A very close relative of mine is a Prof there and to my knowledge, their hoops are likely to be the hula type than the round ball kind.

The people that follow the men's team certainly jumped on the women's bandwagon after the men lost in the FF. There is some really good jawing going on on Twitter right now. Apparently Syracuse is already selling their Championship T-shirts. A little presumptuous don't you think?

So, here we are ... We just met. It's like we're out on our first date and we're getting to know each other. We're different and we have different opinions – and that's okay. But then you decide to insult someone for not agreeing with you. That's not very nice. Suddenly the date isn't as much fun. And personal insults/name calling are really not very Boneyard like. Welcome to the board. I hope you continue to offer your viewpoint.

You seem to forget that Coach Q refused to give Stewie a home game for her senior year, a courtesy extended to most other seniors. I hope Stewie makes him feel the pain of that horrible and selfish decision. For her last game, let's see if Stewie can score 40 points. She definitely will not want to come out of the game if it's a blowout.

Those shirts are probably the ones they had printed up to wear after the men won!

The list of seniors at Uconn for whom the program has had to hunt for some school able to accommodate them for a home game is legion - UC Davis being the most recent found school for KML after more well know schools declined. I wish people would just drop this idea that what Syracuse did was anything other than standard operating procedure for most universities. Cheers for Colgate and College of Charleston and the like but get off the high horse.

Syracuse scares me as well. We will be playing six players and they run up and down the court. Lot of minutes tonight for the starters and Collier. Lets hope that we do not get whistle happy refs like the other night. We will also miss KLS's 3-point shooting. Can Lou play with a broken? Just stand and take the shots. LOL. Cuse will launch many of they. Hopefully Tuck can sink four of them once again tonight. Kia needs to have a 15 point or better game.

Are you talking to me, or Stewie? Because she's the one who was looking forward to a "home" game, and when it didn't happen, said, quote, "It Sucks!" unquote. And Morgan Tuck, whom I would argue is a little closer to Stewie than you, said that it does bother Stewie.
