Read recently that UNC received over 31,000 freshman applications last year, of which they accepted 5,000. Clearly the alleged academic fraud is not having an impact on academic reputation.

The principles of communism as a socioeconomic system appear to escape you.

No I agree with him...The NCAA is acting like a communist regime. Most sports leagues in the US are socialist in their socioeconomic structure but the NCAA goes a step beyond by giving no rights or negotiating ability to its labor force. The committee sets rules and reaps the benefits.

Even if it is Congress, I'm glad to see it's getting some kind of traction outside of the state of North Carolina. This cannot go unpunished. I find it pathetic that even though non-athletes were involved that the NCAA couldn't rule and comment on the athletes that were. This article makes it clear that they were in cahoots on covering this up. I'm thinking NCAA means No Classes At All and that's their new model.

The foremost economic principle of communism is that labor should own the means of production. A communist would support the unionization of NCAA athletes because it empowers the labor force. The NCAA prefers to exploit its labor to an extreme degree because gross exploitation reaps tremendous profits. Therefore the NCAA is an oligarchy--which also rules by tyranny--not a communist regime. That concludes our lesson in socioeconomic systems. Now back to the topic at hand...

I copied the pic off google you j/o. If you look at the field you'll notice it was created by a penn state fan. You'll also notice it's a football field and not a basketball court, genius.

Once Congress gets involved, we can all be confident that the problems will be properly and completely addressed, and in a timely fashion.

Those guys are real good!
I detect a lack of sincerity. Careful the NSA has probably already read your post.

Ok, let me dust off my poli sci degree....Actually, communism is a perfectly egalitarian society. No government exists since it's not needed because everyone gives society what they are able to and gets what they need. According to Marx, government is only needed in the post - capitalist period to destroy the capitalist tendencies that exist. There has never been a truly communist state in the world as all of the states had totalitarian governments. To illustrate, The Soviet Union was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Some say that Jesus and the 12 Apostles was a communist organization, until destroyed by the evil capitalist, Judas, who sold Jesus out for silver....So in short, those who want to organize workers into unions are socialist, not communist.

'Wage slavery', another Marxist term. It means that there's always someone willing to do your job for less. Probably why minimum wage rates exist. Actually, I never used my degree but it helped me get my first job in another field and I've never looked back.

Yeah in Karl Marx's theory you're correct, but in actual practice you get dictators and the enslavement of the people. In North Korea, why can't the people leave their country. I think they call themselves Communists. Its not the 1930s anymore. Even the Russians know what communism actually means. And yes unionization would be socialist. We should set up a vote here..
Is the NCAA a: Communist, b: Socialist, c: an Oligarchy, d: a Junta

A school like Cal Tech has some people in power in California. You don't sanction them for academics, then let UNC skate, and expect to get away with it. How in the world Emmert screwed that up, I'll never know. What did Cal tech have to lose? Nothing. UConn is playing this as if they have something to lose, which I guess is hopeful, but if the worst should happen you have to know UConn will adopt a scorched earth policy. If anything, the Blumenthal suit will let everyone keep in mind that Uconn is very willing to push this all the way when the time comes.

This quote from the article stunned me:

The NCAA declined to sanction the university, saying the scandal was academic in nature, not athletic.

Yet they felt compelled to retroactively and arbitrary apply newly hashed APR rules to UConn, which resulted in getting penalized twice? The NCAA APR, which, when convenient, likes to style itself as an academic watch dog actually has very little to with academic performance. Jay Bilas summed it up best in a tweet.

Jay Bilas ‏@JayBilasApr 8
UConn's APR ban was the application of an arbitrary standard having no bearing on education. It's like measuring health solely by height.

With such blatant contradictions and selective enforcement, the NCAA has lost credibility at every level and it's become clear who they are really advocating for.

Gill said he believes the NCAA and UNC are ignoring the alleged academic fraud to protect the amateur model. If the NCAA were to admit that athletes are not getting an education, it would be devastating to the organization, Gill said.

Yeah, THAT's the reason. Has nothing to do with the fact that keeping athletes eligible using sham classes, if properly acknowledged, would land UNC deep in NCAA sanction land, including a full-on loss of institutional control.

And you sure as f v ck couldn't have THAT at UNC.
