UNC storms the court after win over Duke.

We storm the exits to get a seat for the post game celebration!

UNC storming the court is much less objectionable than selling parts of the net – although maybe that is coming. Still, it is semi-nauseating. They basically are reducing themselves by defining this win as it was “that significant” in their history.

Have we stormed the court since taking down #1 Texas? I remember a loooot of people had a problem with that

Give me a break. That was an embarrassment. UNC's fans just sent the message that they think Duke is the better team -- that beating them was something unexpected. "OMG we beat DUKE!!!1!!" Yeah, you should expect to beat Duke in your house when you're UNC. You have 5 National Championship banners hanging from the rafters overhead for crying out loud. Respect your team, man! Act like you expected them to win. That's how you support your team when you're a member of the elite. I'd give the fans a pass if UNC won on some miracle half court shot, but UNC literally dribbled out the clock to end this one.

Explain who was embarrassed? Not the kids jumping around on the court, they seemed to having a blast.

I'm trying hard to remember any court rushing in the later years of the OBE. I know that even w/o anything near UConn's success, rushing the court is verboten at The Pete. I don't recall ever seeing it at Syracuse or G'Town or even L'Ville or Cincy (not that it's never happened, I just haven't see it). Anyone recall any OBE court rushes?

At one point you could argue court rushing was about exuberance. Now it's more an opportunity to take a selfie on the court.

.-.
Interesting backstory explaining this from "rabazza" on PantherLair (I can't link to the specific post, so will just C&P):

I went to Pitt, then went to B school at Carolina and actually had the opportunity to go to the game last night (my 4th UNC/Dook game). For the record, I did not make my way to the court, but did partake in the fun on Franklin Street afterwards, which is a UNC tradition after beating Dook or winning a National Championship.

Really, I think this all stemmed from the events of the past week, with a lot of UNC fans feeling that Coach K intentionally stayed in Durham as long as possible, in order to ensure the game was postponed and that it was not a Smith Center full of students (as UNC made it public that they were opening it up to students since most people wouldn't be able to drive to Chapel Hill). Whether you buy into that or not, a huge deal has been made of it here locally, and I'm inclined to believe there is at least some truth to it, given UNC made the offer at around noon, well before the snow, to have Duke come to campus, offered practice facilities, etc, and they refused, inevitably becoming stranded in Durham. Doesn't take a Dookie genius to have seen the radar/weather forecast and know that the driving conditions were going to be terrible prior to game time, so I really don't know why K would have refused the offer and stayed put for so long. They even canceled classes there.

As an aside, the Pitt women's team have become pseudo cult heroes here, as a way to make fun of Dook, for making it to Chapel Hill that evening, by bus, when Dook couldn't travel the 8 miles to get here!

Now, I know a big part of it, too, was just to role up the fan base and create even more animosity/energy in an already heated rivalry, but if you can add fuel to the fire and create some more emotion/energy for the team to feed off of in the arena, then I'm fine with it.

I wasn't a fan of us storming the court last night, but I do feel that in talking with others about it, that if the game had ended in the same manner last week, during the original game time, the court storming would not have happened. Seems to be the opinion of most I chatted with after the game last night.

I hadn't heard about the Pitt women making it to UNC despite the storm, but that certainly makes K look like a for waiting and cancelling the original date.

Maybe if we had more court stormings and less old people trying to beat the traffic we wouldn't be in the AAC.

If we did court stormings, it would probably become an NCAA violation we'd get penalized for. After the fact, of course.

One of the dumber things in college basketball are the people who get upset about college kids storming the court. Who cares?

Let them have fun.

I don't think anyone is upset, I don't think anyone really cares that much, IMO it's not like dook was that much better than UNC, both teams are over-rated, no need to storm the court in this situation, if dook was a clear number one and dominating, then okay, but dook is very beatable by almost any acc team.

When we stormed the court against Texas, that was very acceptable, beating a number 1 team.

Coach K should have asked to pull his team from the court & left his walk-ons to finish the game, ala Good Ole Roy at Florida State 2 year ago....

I might be making this up, but do I recall seeing in the huskymania video UConn fans storming MSG in 1990 when we won the tourney??

That couldn't be possible because all I've been hearing the past couple of years from national media is how everyone who went to the BET at MSG was a Syracuse fan.

I just watched it again and they did! It happens around the 21 minute mark for those interested.

That's something that could never happen nowadays. No way would a neutral site would let fans run onto the court. That's really awesome, makes me wish I was around for the young upstart years.

The kids rushing the court were between 18-22 and may not ever see UNC beat duke again. Enjoy it.
I think that's what people don't get. The majority of fans storming look to be teenagers. They don't get caught up in storied programs, what others think, and certainly don't care about embarrassment.

They are in the moment and spontaneously having a good time celebrating. Its mostly us old farts doing the head shaking and saying "tsk, tsk, shameful" who seem to have an issue of teenage whimsical fun.

In 1990 The Uconn fans never expected to be that good (they had never exprienced any of that level of success before) and they didn't expect to stay there. After winning 3 nc they are considered a college blue blood in which case they don't believe there is anyone in the country that they can't beat. So. the only court a UCONN fan will rush is to claim the National Championship banner.

Only old people complain about court storming.
I'm old and I'm a huge fan of storming. Not all of us are curmudgeons
I'm with you CAHUSKY. And I have some years on you.

Maybe you and I just decorum challenged. Or snob deprived. Or under restrained. Or maturationally handicapped. Or fans of Peter Pan!

Nah! Me thinks @White Dwarf just went nova by stereotyping old people incorrectly!
