Some thoughts on the UNC game:
  • The Huskies passed a Big Test today against a very good team. The last time UConn WBB won a regular season game on the road, against a ranked, non-BE team, in that team’s home state, with actual fans in the stands was almost 6 years ago, in December 2018 at Cal. It’s about damned time that streak has ended.
  • The Huskies were on a roll until UNC went to a zone. After putting up 16 in the 1st qtr, Paige only had 2 in the 2nd qtr. Other players needed to step up. In the 3rd qtr, UConn got some offensive production from Paige’s teammates and the Huskies were able to extend their lead. In the 4th qtr, UConn slowed it down and hung on.
  • Sarah continues to impress with her all-around game, poise and ability to stuff a stat sheet. She had a nice game in front of her homies. I am amazed at how many times Sarah gets her hands on the ball, making steals, blocking shots and coming down with rebounds in traffic.
  • Some really nice post defense from both Ice and Sarah. UNC's starting forwards, Gakdeng & Ustby were a combined 2/10 with 5 points in total.
  • I hate the double 3-pt line. Twice during the game, Kaitlyn buried a shot from the corner that Rebecca called as a 3, but she was only behind the inner line which made it a 2. I have no idea why Greensboro still has the inner line. It serves no purpose. :(
  • UConn missed a bunch of open 3's tonight. Azzi can't get back in the lineup soon enough.
  • This is a game the Huskies learned some things about themselves that they can build off of.
  • So let the celebration begin. Geno and CD have tied Tara for the most coaching wins in the history of college basketball with 1,215 wins. I’m going way out on a limb here. ;) Next Wednesday at Gampel against FDU, with many former players in attendance, Geno & CD will become the winningest coaches in the history of college basketball!!!

-Wasn’t always pretty but a nice early season road win against the f4th ranked team in the country.

-Great fourth quarter defensively was the highlight of an overall not great shooting night

—Watching Paige play is like seeing a seasoned WNBA all pro play against college kids.

-Geno didn’t seem too concerned but NC’s zone gave the Huskies problems.

-Two straight first halves in which Ashlynn was non existent offensively. I think Geno wants her until Azzi gets back to be that third scorer behind Sarah and Paige.

-Ice is not ready to concede the 5 position just yet.

-Sarah Strong is showing that she is somewhat human. She struggled from 3 tonight. Still does not play even close to a normal freshman.

Congrats to Geno and CD! One more needed …

Paige played fantastic. What else can you say? She is on another level. That shot at the end of Q1 was art.

Sarah, Jana, and Ice all had good games.

My overall feelings for this game is that we got some good and bad from everyone who played today. Not necessarily a 50-50 split for everyone but I don’t really have the energy to go into details and/or nitpick tonight. I’m just excited for the W.

Paige and Strong just unstoppable.. freshman played like freshman at times but look promising ..

So NC decided to play bully ball and the refs let it slide and decided to call UConn for touch fouls …

NC played really hard .. UConn hit open 3’s they win by 30

Paige said it best very young team and needs more experience… on to the next game

Congrats to Geno and CD.
Paige is a pro playing amongst amateurs.
Strong is the real deal, she just makes play after play. As she gets more used to the college pace, oh my.
Freshman played like freshman, first time on ESPN can't be easy.
Would like Chen to make better decisions.

We’ve been so spoiled for so many years, sometimes I think we forget how young and untested this team is!
Sarah Strong is the real deal, Chen and Ice continue to progress. A great teaching win!
And of course, congratulations to Geno and CD!!

A good win against a scrappy North Carolina team.

Paige was Paige!!

Sarah Strong is the real deal. A double/ double.

Ice played a solid game.

Kaitlyn had a solid game.

The learning of how the team works is in progress. Getting there one game at a time.

Looking forward to Monday night against FDU.

What can you say about Paige that hasn't been said 1,000 times before. I think the most amazing thing about her is you look at her made shots during a game, it's from every spot on the court. I know we suffer from recency bias, but I can't recall a more efficient player.

Are we sure that Sarah Strong is a freshman? Like a boxer with a devastating jab, Sarah has deceptively fast hands. She is a stat stuffer, but I wish she would use her midrange game more, instead of settling for 3-pt shots.

Glad to see Ice Brady battle hard tonight, particularly on the boards.

NC has some nice freshmen and first-year players. Courtney Banghart knows how to recruit and in her pre-game media outing, she was very complimentary of Geno, the program he's created, as well as offering glowing praise for Paige.

Great win and our freshman had their welcome to big-time basketball in a hostile environment.

Good test tonight on the road against a top 20 team. Geno is still experimenting with lineups & substitutions early in the season.
Not counting Paige, UCONN was 3 for 21 from 3 point range. That will improve as those shots were missed by capable 3 point shooters.
