Let me understand this.

The NCAA feels it has free reign to basically threaten Penn State with complete annihilation if it doesn't accept partial annihilation. It feels it has free reign to reach back in time to install a standard that cannot be met with any current remediation in order to catch a dozen or so fish that it can hold up to the media and says, "See? We is alls about academics!" And it has free reign to walk in Ryan Boatright's front door and demand anything and everything it wants to see - and then takes its time coming to any sort of conclusion.

But, when a member school essentially puts forth falsified grades and fields obviously ineligible athletes, the NCAA shrugs. The U. of North Carolina's record on the field and their APR ratings are not accurate. If the NCAA has no jurisdiction, who does? Me? I'll take that on.

For starters, I won't go all weak in the knees when the perps wear Duke or UNC uniforms. (Sorry, Coach K, the Maggette kerfuffle is back on the table when I assume the throne.)

The best parts are the comments at the bottom blaming the writer for bringing up the issue. Say what you will about the APR nightmare but most people here have at least admitted that the basketball program messed up by not following up closely enough on grades. The UNC fans are circling the wagons saying this is a non story and ESPN needs to replace the blogger.
And the President of ESPN is a UNC alum. How much traction do you think it will get there?

I have to think people at Miami are looking at the NCAA shrugging their shoulders at UNC and thinking "There's a chance they won't do too much to us."

So the NCAA gives the Blue Bloods a pass. Why doesn't that surprise me one bit.

I think it's actually the opposite feeling down here. People seem to believe that it is taking so long because the NCAA is really trying to prove a lot of stuff that no one has been able to corroborate. There have been stories down here recently about former players refusing to talk to the NCAA and people named in the story providing dramatically different accounts to the NCAA than Shapiro has claimed. In short, I think people here believe that the NCAA is really trying to "get them".
