"UMass will open their MAC schedule this coming season against newest MAC member Sac State on the road in California's capital"
umess with a killer OOC schedule, 2 FCS opponents in Amherst (Sacred Heart, Stonehill), and transitioning FCS to FBS Sac State.

2026 Sacramento State Football Schedule

Sept. 5 - MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE
Sept. 12 - at Fresno State
Sept. 19 - NORTH DAKOTA STATE
Sept. 26 - UMASS*
Oct. 10 - at Bowling Green*
Oct. 17 - OHIO*
Oct. 24 - at Ball State*
Oct. 30 - KENT STATE*
Nov. 4 - TOLEDO*
Nov. 11 - at Central Michigan*
Nov. 28 - at Hawaii*

Looks like they are paying the travel expenses for UMass, Ohio, Kent State, and Toledo for year one.
Put Maine back on your schedule you absolute cowards

Not that our baseball team is any good this year, so maybe I shouldn't talk. But the 2025 UMass baseball head coach left to take the Wesleyan (D3) job and I have been told he makes more at Wes. Not a serious bunch up in Amherst except about hockey

-> “Toledo’s matchup against Bowling Green is the biggest sporting event in northwest Ohio, and it deserves to be seen on a Saturday stage,” Toledo deputy AD Connor Whelan said this week. “Our campus and community deserve that opportunity, as well. A weeknight game will still draw a crowd — it always does — but we need to start thinking about this enterprise differently, and quickly.

The days of taking the schedule as provided to us is no longer acceptable in today’s climate. If playing twice a year or exploring new formats guarantees this game gets the spotlight it deserves, then we need to look at every option.” <-

I'm on board. Let the MAC run some trial balloons.

Split the league into 3, 4 team pods (one pod would have 5 teams) based on geography/rivalry. Play home and home against the three opponents in your pod, with two games against other pods to get 8 conference games. Top 3 teams, plus one second place team, play a 4 team tournament to crown the MAC champion.

The MAC is not sniffing the playoffs so why not just make your own playoffs that your fans will love.

The MAC is not sniffing the playoffs

The 2016 Western Michigan Broncos and Coach PJ Fleck went 13-0 and rowed their boat to the Cotton Bowl as the G5 representative in the New Year's Six, falling to 11-win Wisconsin 24-16.
