I would imagine they are shooting low. They have to try to make the place presentable as inexpensively as possible because the product is still in the pooper.

I get that but they're shooting so low that it's tough to envision any ROY on the investment. That said I spent like 10 seconds looking at a couple of renderings so I don't know what they're actually trying to do.

Put lipstick... Enhance the fan experience. Don't know what upgrading the seating does at the top of each stand and north endzone. Delaware did something similar prior to their upgrade by putting former player murals on the facade IIRC.

They are definitely shooting low. UMass fans think the stadium “upgrade” is laughable and have no idea what they are doing this. It’s almost like they are intentionally trying to torpedo the athletic department and are actively working to shed whatever fans are left (and that part is a success!) It’s sad and embarrassing
 
There is no justification to expand their stadium. They have had three sellouts (17,000) in 40+ years. Build it and they will come does not apply here.
 
UMass should have repositioned themselves to join the Patriot League. Yes, the PL would probably reject having a large public school join their private school mix, but frankly that would give the entire brand something that is better than this experience if they could make it happen.

Actually, good thinking. The Patriot will have a state school next year with William and Mary, and Boston University (private) is as big as UMass. So size (BU) and public funding (W&M) isn't a non-starter. Maybe they'd take UMass (especially if they marketed as umass-AMHERST) for football only and they could've kept the rest in the A10 like Richmond.

In other words 1/3 of your home schedule. And in another game it’ll be an FBS team which won’t fill hotels or restaurants or anything and it’s half your home schedule. You also have the issue of no one in western MA caring about any MAC program so the “filling hotels” is pure fantasy, UMass fans know it and they are calling for their clown AD to be fired

But you didn’t address that no MAC team will “fill hotels” in western MA for anything whether it’s on a Saturday afternoon or a Tuesday night. Try again

No one at the A-10 level is pushing enough fans to fill any conference rivals open hotel capacity, for basketball or any sport.

No one said they were. But the clown AD at UMass think MAC schools are going to cram western MA hotels with fans who cannot wait to see Eastern, Western and Central Michigan when it will lead to less interest and support among the base. It’s hilarious to watch them desperately try to sell it
