UMass > MAC for all sports in 2025-2026

Some combination of 1) fear that we end up the same spot as the future of high-level college athletics looks murky and the regional/demographic issues affecting UMass also impact UConn, 2) the need to feel superior to someone amidst the persistent struggle to secure a P4 invite, and 3) perhaps a tiny bit of hope a desirable regional rival gets their stuff together.

But I imagine more of the first two.

It's actually more the third one. A good UMass is good for UConn. The problem is that they are a mess, probably due to a lack of support in the Massachusetts legislature and a bad AD.

Can anyone please explain why we care about and are talking about UMASS football so much? This thread seems a little over the top and pointless ... unless I am missing something

For me it's because I am genuinely interested. I grew up in the area, went to basketball camp one year there, went to MANY hoops games there both in the Cage and Mullins, Football too. Dad is an alum, many family and friends are grads from there. I think they will be more competitive in the MAC but at the expense of fan interest and donor support. The only hope they have is to win in football the way Boise State did and in hoops to win the way Gonzaga did/does. Barring that, no one up here will care

Spring, summer and fall are great but why ruin a nice visit there to see MAC basketball in the middle of winter? It’s hilarious that someone actually is trying to sell this 🤣
