Former college player with New England ties with AHL, NHL and NCAA head coaching experience in the ECAC, looks to be a solid hire for UMass. Can't beat the hockey environment at St. Lawrence though, that is their sport.
He has a pretty good recruit coming in this year..Simsbury CT native Taggart Corriveau (son of former Whaler Yvon Corriveau who is heavily involved with the CT Blackhawks youth organization). Plays at Westminster Academy. Doesn't sound too happy about this (would also be a nice pickup for Cav..6-1 180 lb winger):

Sources tell me UMass AD Ryan Bamford has worked out a 5-yr deal with Greg Carvel. A release could be coming as soon as this afternoon.

None of this makes any sense at any level. UMass is, at best, a lateral move. So leave a place you are building, with new facilities in the pipeline, for a place with a worse track record in athletics and a lower ceiling. Perfect.
It was a UMass wet dream and that's about it. It makes no sense on any level.

.-.
It's actually a bit funny how the miserable UNH fans on USCHO are saying "this is a good hire..NOT a great hire" "Carvel will do ok there".........
