Uggh!!!! | The Boneyard

Uggh!!!!

I had my annual ABC - Anywhere But Charlotte post typed out yesterday but there wasn’t a world where I saw him going there including any mock draft that I saw so I didn’t think it was worth it. Glad he was drafted, sick to my stomach at the destination.

Wait, wasn’t he going in the lottery? Where are you obnoxious folks mocking those of us correctly calling Liam’s draft prospects????
I wish you well Liam! Being behind Miller is not a bad place to be until you get a little experience.

Does it really matter whether he went in the lottery or not? I don't get why some people are so fixated about him being a "lottery pick" or not. Sure, going 14th instead of 29th would have netted him more money, but as long as he got drafted in the 1st round it doesn't matter that much.

FWIW, all the legitimate recent mock drafts published had his range starting at #15.
And The Athletic had him #29 on their last Big Board rankings...

Worst outcome for Liam and the UConn program. Sick to my stomach. That ankle sprain cost Liam a hell of a lot.

After the recent dynasty run, only Castle seems to be in a good position moving forward. We've had some rough luck with the recent drafts. Definitely doesn't help the UConn brand

I... kinda like Charlotte's young core now.

LaMelo Ball is only 23 years old. Kon at the 2. McNeeley and Miller on the wings. Bridges is a piece of but only 27 somehow.

They traded Mark Williams, so now they need to get an 'on timeline' center (after having like 3 recently and now all gone), but I can see them contending in the East pretty quickly.

Didn’t you say mid 2nd round? So you were wrong. Can you at least say you were wrong? He was projected in the 15-25 range so that was more right than mid 2nd round. Go ahead and say you were wrong. Do it.

Mid 2nd round? He was that guy? LOL
Gotta love it when people root for people to fail just so they can say they were right.

Can we let Draft day 2 go by? Have you seen Charlotte's picks? It's a college team if they draft 2 more rookies so we should see some trades today.

O.K. I apologize to you @Iluvsuebird. It wasn't you who said mid 2nd round. It was @IllinoisHuskie. Of course he deleted the post after a bunch of us told him he was wrong. But please come back @IllinoisHuskie and tell us all you were wrong.

Fortunately his "mid-2nd round pick" post was quoted multiple times so we still have record of it.

Nobody really thought he was going in the lottery when he declared (there was an outside chance for the Spurs at 14).

He got a 14 million contract with close to 6 mil guaranteed. He'd have gotten 2-3 mill at UConn for 1 year. There's no guarantee next year he would have boosted his stock by returning (just see Karaban), and he achieved his dream of making the NBA.

This is a decent outcome for him, if not the absolute best possible. But hey, that's life.

actually, getting drafted in the lottery really does make a difference in the dollars
Getting drafted 20 versus 29 is not very significant dollars

Should have come back and gotten drafted higher...had a good but not great season and got drafted on hype vs production.
I thought he should absolutely come back but there was no point glazing over it because there was pretty much 0 chance he was coming back. Its a shame because i thought he was a guy who needed two years to really show what hes capable of especially after the injury setback.

This needed a thread? Sentiment has been shared 53 times in the draft thread
And here you are commenting on a thread you felt unneeded.
Well Done Thank You GIF by Pudgy Penguins

My question is, if you had told Liam before the entry deadline that he was going to go to Charlotte at the tail end of the first round, does he come back for another year?

Yet another Uconn player to the dumpster that is the Hornets. I feel sick.
Charlotte definitely is a dumpster fire with horrible coaches, trainers, medical staff, management etc. Anyway you can mismanage an NBA franchise they do it. However for McNeeley this could potentially work in his favor. If he is disciplined and can develop on his own in that void of development that is Charlotte, he might get more playing time then he would elsewhere. It’s is almost guaranteed that atleast 1 of whoever Charlotte plans to start next year will have some issue and there will be an opening..
