>>So how did all of this come to be?

“Coach (Frank Verducci, the Huskies’ offensive coordinator) called me into his office and had me look at the board and asked me if I wanted to play fullback,’ Rutherford said. “I feel like I knew enough (of the offense). I am trying to be versatile and do what they want me to do.”

On the surface it would seem like an offensive lineman’s dream to get a running start to bury an opposing linebacker or defensive back.

“It is a lot of fun but you have to remember to stay under control,” Rutherford said.<<

How do you think it started w/ the Fridge. He's getting the ball on the next 4th and 1!!

Don't overthink it... they are trying whatever they need to do to add wrinkles.

A news reporter from another paper reported that Garrett Anderson played FB against ECU and that Anderson was getting more reps with the offense this week in practice.

I've been calling for him to supplant one of the guards for while. Since he is not redshirting this is like having a third guard in there to run traps with. It wasn't entirely because of him at full back but that was probably the best we've looked running the ball. I like the "wrinkle".

I haven't seen game other than live but I think he (GA) got in the backfield as well and was wearing #24.

Too big for Bivona who also wears #24 and there was this tweet today during press conference but no longer exists:

UConn Football @UConnFootball
Coach Diaco: "Garrett (Anderson) has shown an aptitude to block."

Same time frame as this one...

Diaco: "QB Garrett Anderson was back there shows an aptitude to block. Tough, fairly big, aggressive player"

I keep any emails I send separate from threads, but the person I wrote to said both Anderson and Rutherford took snaps in the backfield. I don't remember seeing Anderson but your picture looks convincing.

FYI, the game participation report doesn't list #24 or #7 (Other than Green). Maybe their trying to keep this secret and we're totally blowing it as fans.

Call me crazy, but what's the name on the back of the guy wearing #7.

As a side note, this is literally the first photo from the official USATSI photo gallery embedded within the game recap on the UConn Huskies website.

It's brilliant if you ask me. They should be this flexible and inventive with their players.

LOL - we like QB3's blocking prowess. Not like we'd be thinking about doing anything weird with two QB's on the field....
