You almost can’t make it up. The school was funded by Connecticut taxpayers BECAUSE THEY WON AT BASKETBALL.

Our reward is bankrolling academics who won’t even give us decent basketball while they pay their cronies off.

I agree with your sentiment- lawmakers and the school administration would rather us be Cal-Berkeley than Kentucky, and they hired with that in mind. Athletics might be priority #4 behind 1) increasing research funding and partnerships to prove the school's value to taxpayers, 2) breaking the USNWR rankings plateau of the last 5 years or so, and 3) getting Uconn Health's finances in order.

Flat out without Calhoun and Geno UConn does not get funded the way it did for the past few decades.

Sports are beneath these brilliant nerds - who aren’t bright enough to get their success in Hartford is greased by athletic success.

Far be it for me to stand in the way of the president fulfilling their important goal of enriching their cronies by noticing that if they actually want to be successful having good sprots teams makes that a a lot easier.
