UConn's All-Time Scoring Leaders

Wth Nika setting the UConn Women's Basketball Assist Record this year I decided to take a look at the UConn scoring leaders.

I have been watching the Huskies play since the Kerry Bascom days. She held the UConn Women's Basketball scoring record for seven years. That stood until Nykesha Sales and the Villanova game that shook sports controversy for a long time. When Diana Taurasi came to Storrs I honestly thought that she would break the record by the end of her career. That didn't take place because of the talented players that played along side of her. Eventually, other players came along and things changed. The game changed. Being at the right place at the right time has advantages. But that isn't always a factor. What Maya Moore did during her career in my opinion won't be matched or passed. Scoring over 3,000 points while playing with Tina Charles, Renee Montgomery, Tiffany Hayes and others is truly amazing.

Currently, we have Aaliyah Edwards at #16. If UConn does prevail tonight there is a chance that she can move up a couple of spots. With the possibility in passing Christyn Williams and my all-time favorite player Svetlana Abrosimova. Again depending on what takes place tonight against Duke, Paige Bueckers will be moving up the scoring chart. With her returning for another season I believe that she will end up in the Top 3 in scoring overall. I'm stretching here but If she does decide to come back for her injury year then she will definitely pass Maya and become the all-time scoring leader at UConn.

Whats more amazing is that for the season Paige has scored 785 points so far. Only two other players have scored more points in a season. Just ahead of her is Napheesa Collier with 792 during the (2018-19) season. And then Maya with 868 points during the (2010-11) season. If UConn does make it to the championship game in this years tournament there is a reasonable chance that Paige can surpass Maya in points scored in a season.

Maya's career record is safe.

Lots of controversy and brouhaha back in 1998 when Sales overtook Bascom, but time has turned that into the difference between seventh and eighth place.

Paige scored 24 points last night giving her a total of 1638. She now has passed Barbara Turner and is 22nd overall. With her returning for another year as mentioned she will end up in the Top 3. But would still have another year at UConn if she wants to stay.

I loved watching Maya play. She was the perfect athlete that did everything. I also love Paige. She has put basically UConn Nation on her shoulders. With 24 points in last nights game she surpassed Naphessa. And, now has scored 809 points this season. If UConn can advance to the Final Four, Paige would need to score 60 points to move into first place. This would be for the single season scoring record. I’m hoping that she does.

Paige is averaging 21.9 ppg this year. She averaged 20.0 ppg as a freshman, when she was NPOY.

1638 points in 2 1/2 seasons -- not bad, Paige. Score 800 or so next season and you will be near the top of the list, which is where you belong.
