I first became excited about UConn football when we beat Yale for the first time in a long time back in 1982 when I was an undergrad. You could sense that we would eventually outgrow that rivalry.

Back in the day always wanted to see Yale play at Memorial. Once the 80's started don't know why we didn't push this.

Because the party was more fun at the Yale Bowl. Game was a blast every year, a new legacy written by my buddies and myself every year. I remember watching the game once I swear! LOL

The 1965 Yale game has to be one of the greatest in UConn sports history. When Gene Campbell returned a 4th quarter INT for a touchdown it seemed like the entire crowd of 40,000 went nuts. I think the final score was 13-6. Yale was a bad team that season, but two and three years later they were ranked as high as 18th nationally when they had Brian Dowling at QB and Calvin Hill at RB. I believe we beat them again the year after those two graduated with Southington's Vinny Clements at TB, 19-15.

I had heard (dk if true) that we agreed to play down there every year in exchange for a 50/50 split of the gate. It usually was the second biggest crowd at the bowl each year, behind Harvard/Princeton, so both sides got something out of the arrangement.
