UConn Women's Soccer - 2025

7-0 is very surprising but the team looked a step behind the whole match.
Freshman keeper has been solid this season but saved he "clunker game" for the semi-final. Not her entire fault but the second goal in particular was gruesome.
Coach R does have the team on the right track and the future is hopeful.
 
They looked a step slow because in several key areas (defense especially) they lack speed and size to compete with top 30 teams in the sport. The defenders are short and slow. They also lack physicality. Almost like they belong in the NEC. They were blown by repeatedly as if they weren’t there.

Right direction? They were outshot 21-2 in this game and lost by a final score margin that really hasn’t been seen since we faced the peak UNC teams. We didn’t belong on the same field as a fringe top 25 team. This is the type of result that really shouldn’t ever happen to a UConn soccer team.

They tied that same Xavier team earlier in the season.

Nah - look at some SEC and ACC teams - their defenders aren't all huge and physical. It takes more patience and smarts to play D in womens soccer. I've coached soccer for decades and had small defenders who would stop a bulldozer.
You are basing your observations on one match - UConn tied Xavier this season and beat them in the Big East Championship game last season when they were ranked higher.
Right direction - YES - I know Coach MR and she is the right coach at this time
No team should lose by a 7-0 score but sometimes it happens to the best of teams.
Rather than looking at one match - look at the progress over the past 3 seasons.
