UConn women's basketball team reunites with Inês Bettencourt

'We miss her a lot'

“It's just special,” Azzi Fudd said. “It's not ideal to be across the country playing in these games, but the fact that we get to see Nesh makes it all worth it, and it's incredible. And getting to see her at the hotel, like, it's just not just for me, but it's so nice to see everyone so happy to see her. It just shows the impact that she had on this team.”​

While her stats didn’t draw headlines, Bettencourt’s off-court persona kept the Huskies’ spirits up during their stretch of heartbreaking injuries. And despite her lack of playing time, her work ethic on the court also stood out.​

“It was so hard for her to leave,” Ducharme said. “Everyone was crying. Everyone was so sad to see her go. But I think we knew that it was the right decision for her, and we wanted her to be somewhere where she could be successful and have the career that she wanted.”​

So heartwarming to learn of the players' friendships and how strong their connections are. I'm very happy for Inêz that she found a place to grow and develop her abilities.

Don't forget, she saved us. I think her performance as a starter against Maryland was sensational. First start, packed arena, national TV, she did a great job keeping us from forfeiting that game. Always rooted for her, and felt bad that Geno would not play her at the end of games when they were out of hand. Great person, she will always be a Husky.
